Aircon ventilation instead of fans

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone.

I am doing a closet grow SOG style, and the two separate cabs are about 4 foot long, 2 foot deep and 4 foot high. I have a 400 watt cool tube hooked up and i want to keep it quiet so i was wondering instead of running fans, can i just hook up a aircon unit, and run a tube to cool the light down, and another down to the cab to keep it at perfect temperature. I will open the door 2 times a day to let c02 in and all that.

But was just wondering if thats do able instead of running fans to keep the tube cool and cab cool.

Thanks heaps

Aircon is the way 2 go man to help with temps n shit B) but havent seen one yet powerfull enough to actually push the heat out of a cooltube, 150mm inline fans in a wodden box silent as this will be needed. And u DO still need to exchange the air in the cab as the air con will be just flowing though the cooltube n back out the cab. Air is as important as light and water, if u skimp on either of these 3 things u will fail.

But yer, u will just have put in bit extra work silencing them, bit more cash n time but as ya say u need it quiet

What is the environment your in that the noise of a fan will be a problem, but the noise of an air con, and the piping running too and from the cabinets won't be an issue?? Sound s abit strange B) An Allvent 150mm fan is very quite, even the 200mm is very quiet.

its a portable watercooler aircon, pretty damn quiet, i am building a box for it with rubber lining and a shelf to sit the ballast on with a closable door. So it will be quiet and easier to control temps. i have a 150mm fan now and its quiet loud when the air is being pushed down the vent. So Air-con may be the way to go. Now all i need is a quiet water pump and i could go hydro.

If it's an evaporative air conditioner (with the water in the back flowing over a pad) then it won't do a spectacular amount for your temps unless you're pulling dry air through it and venting the moist air afterwards. If it's a proper refridgerated aircon then it won't be exchanging air with the outside atmosphere and if the room is sealed up reasonably well you could find CO2 becomes limited. Humidity levels could get quite high as well, which could be detrimental to the plants growth and flowering will be more susceptible to mould for little gain in temps.

A 150mm inline fan exhausted to the window or the roof with a decent sized passive inlet will be more than enough for a cabinet 400w grow with room to move up in the future to 600w. Silencing can be easily acheived with some acoustic ducting on each end of the fan say .5 to 1m each end. The noise reduction is rather impressive.

Any chance you can confirm though what kind of aircon we're talking about? Evaporative or refridgerated?

Hi alice1,you are using a evaporative air/con you will have humidity problems if you dont vent the air from the cabnet, the air from your cooltube will be like {STEAM} use a refrigerant air/con get a small portable one about 1HP to,1.1/2hp air/con should do the job for you an vent the hot air from the condenssor out off the room like out the window, but make sure you have fresh air comming in to your grow room ,for that size room you will not need a big air flow as the air/con will keep the air cool in your room for you ,you could just have the air/con blow into the room an suck the air from the room through your cooltube ,but you will find that the air/con will run none stop when your light is on ,what is your normale air temp outside the grow room ?if its not to hot you could just suck air from outside off the room to cool your cooltube,an just have the air/con cooling your room, :)
