err, I don't understand how the 20 bux timers can help.. The idea of a flip flop is the ballasts run 24 hours a day, which is connected to two sets of leads/lamps. One set of lamps is on for 12 hours and then the other set. The timer is between the ballasts and lamps, not the power and ballasts.

2 flower rooms, 2 sets of leads/shades/lamps and one ballast. (or one built for two ballasts as I am wishing).

i just dont see the point . who would question a police officer anyway jesus :)

Yeah dude, 30amp is more than enough for that load, I am sorry, I did not see Mongys link. Ok, If you got some solid advice, go for it dude. You can solder the connections if you want, put a bit of heat tubing around the connections to keep it nice and isolated, should be fine. Sorry dude but my bro is a sparky and just want you to be careful =) .

Yeah man, earth to chassis is good. I will be interested to see the end product, have fun putting it together man, see you got your leads. I am a simplicity is best man, but I admire your vision. Laters. GH72

Hi mate.....You need to attach the lead going to light number 1 to terminals 3 & 7. The lead to light number 2 attach to terminals 2 & 6. Make sure 2 & 3 match colour wires and 6 & 7 match.

The lead coming from the ballast attach to terminals 4 & 8. Match the wire colour of 4 to 2 & 3 and the wire on terminal 8 to 6 & 7.

The lead from the timer, attach to terminals 1 & 0. You need to replace the round earth plug with the standard plug on this lead.

The earth wires you can join and connect to the chassis.

You can use either the spade connectors for the relay terminals or just solder them on.

Hope that helps.

Peace MongyMan

As an after thought....

If you want to flip more than 1 ballast, you can by simply adding relays and running them all off the same timer. Wire each ballast to each relay as described above and wire the timer terminals from the first relay to each successive relay in parallel.

Yes thanks, I was planning on doing that.

Ok. so looks do not count, as it should not be seen by anyone, ideally. But is this alright, in an electrical zappy kind of way?? I banged some holes through the power supply casing for my cables, but I don't want them rubbing against the sharp edges, so I am going to bung some cut up garden hose in there and feed the cables through them. Then I can cable tie the cables in place inside the case, and sticky tape them to the hose which is wedged into the case. Hmm, ghetto flip flop. I do understand that there are proper grommets and plugs designed for this purpose, but I do not really care about that, as long as it is safe. the hose is rubber so I can't see how it can be a problem, but hopefully someone will tell me if not so.

So I soldered the blue and brown wires to the relay and then joined to other relay.blue = 0 and brown = 1 on both relays. I am using the computer power supply so the plug is an internal type male connector, and just uses one of the dozen or so of spare cables laying around here.

So I decided I suck at soldering, which is kind of funny considering I did my time as a boilermaker/welder. I do not want to bugger around with the little pins so I am going to get some spade adapters in the next few days hopefully. I need some round ones for the earth wires anyway.

Looking at the instructions and looking at the relays, it makes perfect sense to me now. It is always better to understand why you do something rather than just knowing what you are doing.

I will finish the rest in a few days when I have the spade bits. Once again thanks for the help.

your sig says it all - "If it's Worth doing, it's worth getting it RIGHT the first time".

I agree about being carefull, but I still want to have a go myself. Did you look at the relay that Mongy linked to and do you think it is rated to do the job?? 240 volts and 30A seem about right to me, as in only running either 2 600's or t 1000 watters.

Well u can get away with 10 amps there mate :peace: if u cant even rate the equipment u wana run how the fuck u gona build this thing. As diff amps require different guages of wire so they dont melt. :)

Glad u wana have ago, glad ur keen on growin. But gona put it bluntly for u. UR not gona see first harvy and we gona be minus a member

your sig says it all - "If it's Worth doing, it's worth getting it RIGHT the first time". Right is letting an experienced person do it ans buy 1

Spend the fuckin money dont be so cheep...its ur life and ur plants at steak.

And if u did just buy it u would be half way though a flowering cycle by now and pay that thing off 100times
