Lights, camera, police action

DAVID STOCKMAN

A marijuana grower purportedly from Canberra has posted videos on YouTube of his efforts to grow the drug under artificial lights in his home.

Police are examining the footage from seven short videos that include basic tips and progress of the illegal activity.

The videos include intermittent narration from a man, whose only appearance on camera is his hand reaching for the plant.

Police are investigating the videos and were set to contact administrators at YouTube to find out the origins of the video and about taking the items down.

Detective Sergeant Dave Harrison from ACT Policing said police were looking into the postings, most of which were uploaded recently.

''ACT Policing is monitoring the posting of such videos and is investigating the latest content,'' he said. Police will also investigate potential charges related to the publishing of the videos.

In one of the videos, the narrator describes the progress: ''It's really taken off now, quite happy''.

He describes the plant as being ''very healthy with a little bit of stretch, but all in all pretty good from seed''.

In a description for one of the videos, the poster identified as jacobb9595 talks about the plants as being fed ''nothing but organics, using maxicrop which is a seaweed-base nutrient''.

One of the videos, lasting for 15 seconds, shows mature marijuana plants under lights. The video was posted about a year ago. Others show a seedling up to 46-days-old, apparently grown from seed.

I wonder if they snoop on this forum.

They might but unlike YouTube who will cooperate with LEO to hand over IP details this site won't. The moral of the story is, if you want to upload videos, is go upload at PotTV. YouTube are do-gooder tossers. As much as I'd like to want to see this guy get away he'll be nicked. Digging around on 'police', 'youtube' 'Canberra' and 'arrests' and I find the AFP were successful in a recent bust of a Canberran motorcycle rider who hooned through the nation's capital and had put his adventures up on YouTube.
