Risks of using high amounts of electricty

Recommended Posts

This is going back a while, but my girlfriend (now wife) knew a woman that needed a roof. She moved in. After 6 months it didn't work out. In that time i couldn't grow. When she left i restarted @ the time about 800w in light. The bills remand approx constant. So my small setup was the same as 1 extra person

I also know of a family that had the cops do a raid, They stormed the house guns and all, due to the excessive power usage. The family of 7 all had their own tv's, computers etc and a huge house for heating. There was a write up in the local rag and since that incident I've not heard of any raids due to electricity consumption. Not that the cops would advertise it.

But if as 'pisspotgrower' puts it 'If you are going to fill a house with 26 x 1000w lights then good luck.'

Don't be silly about it and you'll be fine. Have a couple of blow heaters around they burn electricity like mad. Don't use them but have something there that may explain why you have big bills. If you can back yourself up they have no grounds to investigate further.

P.S. My room has become larger with more consumption but still no visit, touch wood.

Best advice, Be sensible

Sorry bout the bad questions guys, I guess I should have figured people would be paranoid, but people display their grows all the time.

I figured many of you people (especially serious growers) might access this site anonymously. Maybe an anonymous poll could be conducted, and people could even do the poll through Tor to sure they couldn't be associated with the data.

Anyway, at least it got you talking about this topic which is to my advantage :yahoo:

Lucky u dont grow gboost, all that info plus steeling electricity gona get u caught, have a think about how me telling u if i steel power and where i am from is gona help people grow a plant.

As they say, They don't call common sense common sense cause its common after all

A: I didn't say I steal electricity

B: I didn't say where I live

C: Everyone is entitled to an opinion. I'm not the paranoid type, I have already taken measures to combat all the issues put forward in this thread.

There is no reason to single me out mate, I thought this place was about sa common goal. Its seems more people would rather shoot the thread to flames rather than offer any constructive advise. If you don't want to add personal info, there are plenty of other useful things to do :yahoo:

Like offer info :peace:

If your concerned about IR heli's, run a closed grow room. Run say a grow tent inside your shed, and use an air conditioner to keep the temps down and bottled Co2 for feeding the plants, this will save venting hot air outside. Google CGE grow room or closed grow room, there is a wealth of info out there.

Insulate the room, or at least the roof, and keep the lights/tent off or away from walls. This will be the best way to stop heat signatures.

Get some decent fans and control equipment into the room and run your lights during the day, not at night, IR is relatively useless during the day. While you may need humidifier or dehumidifier, air con, Co2, water chiller etc, I guess the cost vs risk of not doing it is up to personal choice.

I don't condone stealing power, its probably the one thing that will land you in the most hot water when combined with your growing if you ever get caught. IF however you do, don't steal ALL the power for your grow, don't bypass the whole house, or expect to take 10000w for your grow. Maybe take the power for your mothers, clones and fans or something along these lines. And FFS, don't electricute yourself if you do it yourself!!

Always pay with cash, for everything, always ship in a different name to a different address to your grow, always surf anonymously, no exceptions.

Don't tell ANYONE, no one is your friend, loose lips sink ships. To clarify because of words in this thread, I mean people you know, people face to face, local people, don't sell locally etc etc. And if you talk to people on the net, use the last rule ALWAYS.

There are a few other things you can implement, but at the end of the day, if you can't afford to do it properly, its probably best not to :toke:

Hey just a quick response.. I'll read through the thread more carefully when I got a bit more time..

Yeah sorry about asking certain questions so presumptuously, I should have known it was a delicate issue- but we live, we learn, some more gradually than others :yahoo:

Its my paranoia that drove me to ask, but your paranoia that keeps many people quiet :peace:

I am interesting in what people think may be the highest wattage usage people would be willing to dare without major risk of getting busted...

Would people be game to use 4000w? 8000w? I'm probably thinking 4000w is as high as I would go, but I would cross over the usage of different set ups, to avoid obvious patterns on my electricity consumption (like sudden 12 hours on / off during flowering)... This is all for my future reference, at the moment I am in a rental house- its not feasible and too risky.

One idea I have had, and this may be a long term fantasy- I guess I will have to wait and see:

* You could register a business name, some obscure internet company or something.. Create a website as a mask etc...

* Then under that business name hire around some run down warehouse or business address in the middle of nowhere important. Somewhere secure and private. Then you could have a setup at the business address, and the electricity company would have the electricity registered under "business" thus they expect potentially much higher electricity usage for potential business equipment etc. Maybe I don't understand all the factors enough, but I don't know why more people don't do this (if they don't!). I looked on various rental sites for business properties, not too expensive to do...

Please note I am not actually advocating such a large scale operation, I'm just theorizing and speculating :toke:

All these things u ask can be done :peace: with time n practice ull have ya 8k room in no time :freak:

Okay I have done a search but I still haven't found a satisfactory answer to the question: Can you get busted from using fairly high amounts of electricity from a hydro grow?

I think we can figure it out if people answer the following questions (this is for indoor hydro growers).

Please specify if your grow is not at a residential address and answer the following questions, as more people do so we shall be able to build up a picture. If you steal electricity from the grid, also please specify this, as this is likely to significantly effect the risks.

(1) How many Watts approx do your lights consume?

(2) What State do you live in?

(3) Roughly how long have you been growing with your current light setup?

(4) Have you been raided or had any suspicious enquirers from your electricity company? If so please explain.

Also any "secondhand" reports are appreciated, but only if you directly know the person involved, so as to be sure what you have heard is accurate.

I have read the post and the information regarding the high amount of electricity then it will more easy but i think no one is gone through the same because of the security reason.

1. So everyone who installed a brand new lounge room 3000 watt Air Conditioner for summer is now going to get investigated.

I don't think so. My spa uses $800 worth of electricity a quarter. My electricity Bill has been as high as $1500 for the quarter, and that's without my 300 watt hydro going at all. In Essence my Spa heater uses 10 TIMES MORE THAN MY HYDRO

The only visit I get is the Fucking shit loads of Electricity suppliers keep door knocking to ask me to switch over to them.

2. Stealing electricity is usually found out from the bust, because the idiots have made it a piece of piss to see the power cable is spliced into the upside of the meter. Even a copper can switch the Hydro system on and off and see if the meter speeds up or not. It's not rocket science.

3. Helicopter FLIR is absolutely useless in Surburban areas. Air conditioners generate far more heat than even a large hydro system. Solar Hot water, heated swimming pools, outdoor gas patio heaters, rangehoods, fireplaces.

Come on Stoners look at the big picture, I think it fine to be cautious but commenting on something you have no idea about is not helpful.

The FLIR Choppers can't even get the bikies Hydro setups in the bush. They sure know there stuff and have there fingers in some sticky little pies. They all get phones calls as soon as the chopper gets airborne....ha..ha....ha...

The Coppers need stealth choppers...ha..ha..hah :yahoo:
