Typically how tall is a plant?

Recommended Posts

Sorry for this nooby question.

I just got these seeds and start potting them

How tall can a Nirvana's AK-48 strain grow?

It's an indoor seed, reckon it should be like knee height?

Previously, I had an white widow strain which grew just above my knee.

That was perfect!

I am really worried if my new batch turn out to be 3 times the height!

Hi Manson,

As has been said 'this site' is one big encyclopidia about this magic herb and growing.

What is 12/12, I am quite new to this forum...

Everyone was new at some point and everyone had troubles with gtasping the "lingo" - and there is a few of them linguistically challenging questions to be answered over time.

May be you should search gathering all the "linguistically challenging questions" and start a post and before you post this suggested thread try to anser them using ther "serarch" function. Navigating this encyclopidic site in a challeng to master as well. It will come with time.

12/12 is discribing the 12 hours of light/s on and 12hrs of light/s out. An imprtant aspect of 'triggering' a mj plant to flower.

Now you may have seen 18/6 as well. Your task is to tell us what this means and why its important ?

Get back to us Manson

Nitty.

Hi Nitty,

I got this off the net:

"During the vegetative cycle the plants receive lighting continuously or for a minimum of 18 hours a day. During the flowering cycle they receive fewer hours of light."

Reckon its the amount of exposure to sunlight.

To control growth is to control light exposure!

I will expose 18/6 till the height desire, then switch to 12/12 to trigger the flowering!

Cheers!

hi Mason

Not sure where you're up to with this, but here's a few solid starting points:

If you haven't done so already, sprout the seeds in rockwool and keep it damp by pouring in water. Then when they're about 10 cm (4 inches) plant them (including the rockwool) into coconut fibre in a good sized pot. The top of the rockwool should be buried about 2cm below the surface of coconut fibre. Then feed them nutrients.

You can buy all this from a hydoponics store and its not very expensive. I use coconut fibre because there is NO nutrients in coconut fibre for the plant. Therefore I have complete control over the feeding. If you use soil, then you've got to know your soils really well otherwise you're sure to run into troubles. And very few know their soils really well, so I would stay clear of it.

You need to by grow nutrients from hydro stores as well. USually the fairly cheaper stuff is fine. You get grow or veg formular and you heavily dilute it. The other type is bloom formular which you only start using when you're flowering your plants. For growth period, your need the growth formular or "veg" forumlar (depending on the brand). It's standard to get two bottles labelled A and B. So usually I make up about 1 litre of water with 5ml of A and 5ml of B and shake it up before feeding the plants (by hand). Never mix the A and B forumular undiluted with each other. Just add them separately straight to the water. Now here's a big tip: every 5th time you feed the plant, feed clean water with no nutrients. Salts build up a bit in the fibre from the nutirents and straight water every 5th feeding just helps flush it out a bit and helps the plant out.

If you have already started growing in soil, the soil often contains nutrients. So feeding extra nutrients to the soil can cause the plant to die or battle a lot because the nutrient levels of the soil is too high. So in reality, you should just feed it water if using soil. But as time goes on, the soil nutrient levels will fall away and the ratios of different nutrients will change a bit, which means you need to start adding nutrients at that point in time, but it might be experimental working out how much of what you need to add. This is why you should avoid soil!!!

During the veg cycle, give it about 18 hours of light a day and 6 hour of proper darkness every 24 hours. The evidence indicates that you don't get any extra growth by giving 19 or more hours of light a day and it is also healthy to give the plant some decent darkness. So DO NOT give them 24 hours of light a day (as some people may suggest).

The other thing to be really mindful of is airflow. Plants grow and convert CO2 to oxygen. This means that if there's no air flow, oxygen builds up, CO2 drops and the plants start to go south. So get some ducting and a small fan that you insert into one end of the duct (a simple setup like this from a hydro shop should cost you $40 or so). I usually just like to get the fan outside the grow room and sucking that fresh air in and blowing it around the base of the plants. Do not blow air directly onto the plants as it can destroy or stress them. They shouldn't be moving around and leaves shouldn't be shaking about due to air blowing on them. I direct the duct to the base of the plants pots.

So that's your starting setup. Once you get going, use this forum to get answers to problems that arise. Sometimes 1 plant will grow slower than others, somtimes some of your plant's leave go a bit yellow or something like that. All these little issues you encounter can be resolved with the help of this forum lol

In answer to your question about how tall a plant is, when you start the flowering cycle by switching for 18/6 to 12/12, your plants with shoot up a fair bit during the first week before they start flowering. Expect about 35% or more height increase in the first week of flowering, but once they start budding up, their growth really slows down dramatically.

So I veg for about 8-9 weeks and at that point, mine were about 3 feet (just under a metre) tall. After the first week of flowering they were about 4ft 3 inchs. Once budding, 4ft 5 - 4ft 7. So I suppose you need to contemplate that they might be up to 5 feet tall. To prevent this from being a problem and to get great yield (bud volumne) at the end, you should top the plants early in their growth and if you really want to be adventurous, tie them down so they grow flatter. There are even youtube videos that show you how to top and tie down plants. Must be done early in their life though as topping late can cause realy problems for the plant.

In any case, that's a starting guide for you, good luck lol
