Raid nets bumper cannabis crop in Chermside

Recommended Posts

"ARGUABLY the tallest cannabis plants found in suburban Queensland were seized in a Chermside backyard.

About 50 of the huge plants were found on Monday, some up to 4.5m tall.

To the surprise of police who raided the property, no attempts had been made to conceal the drugs from neighbours or pedestrians peering down the side of the house.

"I've never seen a crop this size and this quality in suburban Queensland," former Drugs Squad officer Det Insp Graham Clark said from the scene.

"We estimate at this stage there's a quarter to half-a-million dollars (of cannabis). They're very well attended plants."

Police swooped on the Mylne St home in the morning and took a man and woman away for questioning.

Det Insp Clark would not say if police received a tip-off, but confirmed the crop would be burned at an unnamed facility as per police procedure.

Late yesterday, a 41-year-old man was charged with producing, supplying and possessing cannabis and a 42-year-old woman was charged with possessing cannabis.

The man will face Brisbane Magistrates Court on April 19. The woman's court date is yet to be set."
