A couple questions on cooltubes

Recommended Posts

Hey Guys, just wondering if anyone can fill me in on alittle info about cooltubes. I want to swap out the bat wing I have at the moment, but I need to know:

How big of a fan do I need attached to it? 1000W is alot of heat so I imagine it needs alot of airflow. Will an inline fan do the job, or do I need a centrifugal? I'll probably duct it into the existing duct work I have for the tent, so the fan wont have to push through a carbon filter or anything like that.

Is there alot of lumen loss due to the Glass? and how close to the tops can I have the lights in a cooltube.

Forgive the n00b questions :) :( :)

Hey ,miccji love ya ideas on the cooltubes since getting mine havent looked back. I started with 2 600s in cooltues with a 150mm inlines fan drawing out the heat. Now while this worked well when i added a third just was not enough. I would recommend since u have put great effort into everything and r KIKIN ass use a 150mm centifugal fan, YES gonna run ya extra 100 bux over the inline but then ya pretty much sorted for along time. :(

As for the light loss i would say its not even worth worrying bout cause what u loose cause of the glass u make up for in the extra 12 inches closer to the plants :)

ohh and sorry man.....if u drawing air for ya cooltubes from a cool area not jokin when i say my 600s can sit on the plants , i have buds being held up by the glass :) but 1000 maybe a few inches still hehehehehe

Imo go the centrifugal and get a bigger one than you need incase you decide to add another light or 2. Insulation places have a good range and can also supply a dimmer for it so you can get the exact airflow you need for the lights and ambient temperatures. Theyl also have adapters so you can for instance use a 300mm fan and join it to 3 x 150mm ducts each sucking through a cool tube. Lots of choices. Good luck.

If you decide to go down the road PPG and Mudguts have stated, and you have a small grow tent, you will need to connect ducting to the other end of the cooltube to draw fresh air from outside the tent, otherwise the negative pressure will get really high and cause your tent to rip in spots or buckle the framework....whereas if you use an inline fan the suction power is lower so the tent wont experience extreme negative pressures.

Each time you do a grow the setup can be different and may require a different fan.

Thanks for the help guys, I'm going to upgrade alittle more after this harvest, another 1000W, 2 cooltubes and 150mm centrifugal, and 2 more NFT tanks. :). And I thought I had the set up just the way I wanted. Everytime I go in there I see something I want to improve, hahaha.

Thanks for the input TD. I have a 3x3x2 tent and run a 200mm centrifugal for exhaust and 2x100mm inline fans for intake. I may have to upgrade my intake system, thats alot of airflow, hahaha.
