The Plans...

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Cheers for checking out my thread.

So here is the story so far: I am completely new to growing Herb. I've decided to get myself a nice little indoor set up going as soon as I have the funds. Probably going to buy seeds through PS or SB but probably bagseed to begin with as I figure out how to do it properly.

Now, I have done my fair share of reading on this site and others like it and I'm pretty sure I have got the gist of it Re growing and ordering seeds online. But there are still a few (major) things I need answered or cleared up before I get going.

Ill give you a brief rundown of what the setup will most likely include (and questions):

- Grow box (home-made with mylar) 100width x 75depth x 160height

- 400watt HPS (will this be sufficient?)

- Soil

- 2/3 plants depending on size (maybe 6 with SeaOfGreen method?)

- Carbon filter (what size would I need? I really don't know where to start with this!)

- Digital light timer

- Thermometer with humidity function

- Fan for air movement and strong stems

- Ph tester

Does that sound reasonable?

Is there anything I am forgetting?

Strains: When I look through the seedbanks I just get overwhelmed with all the varieties and descriptions and pro's and con's and the yummy pictures of lovely bud.

Basically I want something that is 1) Easy to grow. 2) Doesn't get to large. 3) Grows fairly quickly. Doesn't have to be a huge yielder but the more the merrier of course. I would rather have a few small plants that will grow and mature faster rather than one large plant and wait 6 months. I am sure someone out there has a good suggestion that fits the criteria.

I've considered auto's and to be honest they quite appeal to me. I know they dont have the best reputation, but they seem to be easy, esp for the first timer. I was quite interested in SnowRyder (opinions?). But I'm just not sure whether I should go with an Auto or regular...leaning towards regular hence asking your opinions of strains above.

Also, is it worth it buying feminized seeds?

Well that all I can think of right now but I cant help but feel that I am leaving something out. Oh well, Time Will Tell.

Cheers Everyone

Good luck Doc :P

I would suggest a low odour strain. This will eliminate the need for a costly filter/fan which could be over half your original outlay with what is described... :P

:) :P

Thanks for the suggestion mate, But I definitely think I'll go with a carbon filter. The situation I am in calls for complete stealth (cant really go into reasons why but it has to do with location). And I would be a lot more comfortable with a filter rather than a low odor strain that will still smell. Although it will almost double the initial outlay it will grant me peace of mind...and I will be able to afford it so no reason not to go with it me thinks.

Top props to ya for goin a filter n a fan man :P , cant put a price on piece of mind and ya need a good exhaust anyways heli whats this go with no fan ?????

Will need a truncheon meter as well ( tests ur ppm of ur nutrients )

Lookin forward to seeing the pics n welcome :P

Truncheon meter has been added to the list. Cheers...

I'll probably do a grow diary as well because I am anticipating some sort of problems and I think I will need the expertise of this forum to help get me through. So keep an eye out.

It will be AT LEAST One month before I get going as I'll have to build the box and buy all the necessities etc etc.

Would it be worth germinating some bagseeds now and having them under a fluro for the time being so I can get a head start?

Thanks again

as for the carbon filter there is a d.i.y thread on here that will save u a bundle, its simple and effective.

As for the seeds i would look at ordering within the next week or so and as for strain it depends how much u were looking to spend. Its up to you if you want feminised or not, most people would go straight for feminised (saves the wondering how many fem's u'll end up with) and also which method u want to go with? sea of green would mean u'd need to seperate rooms for your mothers and your clones (and u would have more than 6 plants in SOG although it would mean i wouldnt have to worry bout height and wat sort of buzz u lookin for? up high or body?

heli whats this go with no fan ?

Well... you need an exhaust fan that is correct. I was saying that if he were to grow a low odour strain... than an in-line exaust fan would suffice for example. As opposed to a costly centrifugal fan to work with the filter.

Anyway 'tis just a suggestion on a possible way to go about things. I grow a low odour strain and there is absolutely no need for any odour filtration whatsoever, seriously :)

But like the guy said he can afford it and it will give him peice of mind so it's a moot point really.

I like the chinaman hat shade :) good luck with the grow.

:yahoo: lol
