What type of light is best on a budget?

Recommended Posts

Hello all, just a quick question, when growing on a really tight budget, what globe should I use.

The cheapest option for me is this method, post-21514-1266311137_thumb.jpg

I can pick the whole thing up cheap at my nearest tandy lighting store, so using this setup, what globes should one buy?

And how many would I need for say a 5ft(w) x 6.5ft(L) x 8.5ft (H) room?

Or is that type of light just not worth wasting my time on, should I just save up a little first?

Any and all feedback is welcomed, Thanks RJ

Yeah, you would need so many of those small lights together to make that room even close to well lit that you're better off purchasing a larger light to begin with.

I'd suggest buying a 400w hps kit from your local hydro shop or online even, and then perhaps moving up to 600w later. Keep in mind that lighting is only one small part of the whole shebang, ventilation is just as if not more important.

So save up around 500 AUD and do it right the first time, you'll be a much happier chappy.

Thanks for the help guys, decided to spend more on lighting, what would you recommend, eBay has 400watt hps kits for $150, or 600 watt hps kits for $185 brand new.

Would 1 600watt get me by, or would it be best to have 2 400 watters?

Would there be a spike in power consumption with these bad boys?

And how often do the globes break/burnout?

Thanks Rj

hey glad you have seen the light :D ..... have a look here http://cannaversity.com/calculators/lighting.php

i just change my globes every coupla yrs depends how many crops, this is highly variable according to hours of operation

globes have pretty thick glass so unless your butterfingers and drop them they dont break or ' blow', not in my experience

yes there would be a jump in elec. consumption but ive never found that a problem, like sometimes my bill trebles from one quarter to the next, so long as you pay promptly no questions from AGL (elec. supplier)
