250w v's 400w

After some thought i've decided to ditch all other options and go the hid path. I'm about to buy a hps light set up, have run my measurements thru the calculator and have been given 250w as the general lighting ballpark.

Its only a single plant grow, and i'm sure 250w should do a great job. but the question is, can i push the limits a little and go for a 400w or is this just wasted as there is only so much light a plant can photosynthesis???? the other obvious draw back would be increased heat.

so, in short, stick with the recomended 250w setup, or do i go to 400w

the other option i have is to go 250w for veg and growth, then as flowering occurs i can add a second 250W. just a thought.

Pends how big ya room is. 400 in a cool tube can sit on ya plants

grow area is aprox 180h x 650w x 550d. like i said, comes in around 250w on the calculator.

was considering a cool tube anyways. are they really that effective that you can get that close to the plants?

would the 400 be wasted? or will it only serve to make the plant flower better?

400 will give you better flowers. More dense buds. 250 for veg 400 for flower.

Mate, unless you have really good ventilation ( Cool Tube setup) a 400w will cook your plants in that small a space....I recommend a 250W, I use a 250w MH in a similar sized space for my mums and vegging clones

so providing i have sufficient ventilation i can get away with a 400? was thinking about a 400w hps cool tube set up, with a 400w mh retro in it for veg, then using the hps globe for flowering?
