Mover and shaker blamed

Recommended Posts

A MAN who sub-let his rental property to a couple who were caught growing 114 cannabis plants under lights in the bedrooms, bathroom and laundry, pleaded guilty in Gympie Magistrates Court to a number of drug charges this week.

John Francis Bone, 57, was charged with producing, supplying and possessing dangerous drugs and for possession of the hydroponic equipment found at the Fritz Road address where Jessica Sarah Turner and Matthew John Berry were living on October 27, 2009.

The couple accused Bone of supplying them with drugs and being the “main mover and shaker” behind the scheme when they were dealt with in the Supreme Court in Brisbane for possession and production charges. They were convicted and fined but Bone’s lawyer Mary Buchanan kept the matter in Gympie by negotiating with police prosecution in Gympie to get three of the four supply charges dropped. Bone pleaded guilty to one supply charge.

Ms Buchanan told the court her client said when he left the premises to the couple, only five plants were growing under lights. She said he admitted to owning the equipment and being in possession of a small amount of cannabis and a bong when police raided the Valentine Street premises where he was staying at the time.

“They were party to a very good deal ... Ms Buchanan said of the couple who used Bone’s house. “650 grams is a fairly large setup but if you look at it in context, other people were involved.” With virtually no criminal history, Bone was placed on probation for the possession charges and sentenced to three months in prison, wholly suspended for three years for the supply and produce charges.
