400w or 600w hps

Recommended Posts

Hey guy's just a quick question i have a 400w and a 600w hps now not sure which one i should use, obviously i dont want to burn my babies so should i stick to 400w for veg and flower or use 400w for veg then switch to 600 for flower? (more light=bigger bud right?) or should i just stick with 600 all the way? i kno people say use mh for veg but funds are a lil tight at the moment due to bugger all work at the moment (will get one next grow).

the grow room is 450deepx850widex1.5high (res tank is already in and thats what im left with)

thanks guys

Just from an energy efficiency POV, a 400w in veg/early then bumping up to a 600w in flower/late is a good way to keep things happy. A small plant won't use all the light generated from a 400w when it's a baby, but the larger the light source all other things being equal the bigger the result.

.45x.85x1.5 is a very small room, unless you have very, very cool temps ambient or a ridiculously overspec fan I'd suggest a 400w for a room that size, and it's probably overdoing it even then. It's an effective canopy of only 0.38m2. A general rule I try to follow is 0.5 - 1.0m2 =400w 1.0 - 1.5m2 = 600w 1.5 - 2.0m2 = 1000w depending on the environmental factors of course.

Try and get a second wardrobe of similar dimensions and put the two back to back if possible, this will give you access to two sides of the room and bring you closer to a more manageable canopy size and volume.

Good luck! :)

hey guys thanks heaps, but luke i didnt quite understand do i go 400 for veg and 6 for flower or just stick to the 400 the whole way through? i realised it was too small once i started reading some of the threads in here haha, i'll have a look for another wardrobe over the next couple days and see what i can do.

thanks again
