Former soldier hits out after cannabis fine

Recommended Posts

Gee I don't know Al, soldiers going to war in Vietnam were only 17 at best, had a drivers license, but couldn't vote or weren't old enough to go into a pub, but they could go to war and get killed. No wonder a majority of them have had break downs or have taken there own lives. Because of narrow minded twits like you.

Your a disgrace. :peace:

"During that time he was involved in harrowing military operations which led to his ultimate breakdown and discharge in 2003."

Wonder how many people he killed or help to kill. Perhaps he was part of the Coalition of the Killing which spread Depleted Uranium all over Afghanistan and Iraq.

What a hero!

Al.

Hey Al. I'm as anti-war as you. Did the marches, etc.

I've worked (as a reporter) in a number of warzones. It is unpleasant shit. As someone who also suffers now and then from Anxiety, I'm also interested in and can attest to Cannabis' useful medicinal effects. I feel for this bloke.

The question is, why don't you? Mate, I'm not going to judge you based on one single opinion you hold, and I know where you're coming from in terms of being really angry about the war. But, you have to differentiate between government policy and those men and women who have to act it out with their blood and their minds and their lives.

Human compassion, Al. Combatants are as affected by war as civilians - being, you know, people and all.

Being the son of a soldier deployed to Iraq, and a grandson of a Vietnam vet, i know PTSD can fuck peoples lives, I recall my father having many sleepless nights, prescribed Valium and Risperdal, still to this day, and you know why they go through hell for AL? So average Joe like you and me can live in this beautiful country, free from worries, like is my town going to get bombed , or am I going to get shot? You should be thankful AL that they went through hell, so we didn't have to..

“...insulting people who spend their lives protecting you.”

Which war did Australians die in for my freedom? One war will suffice for me. History, on the other hand, suggests that Australians always left Australia to kill people in other countries. The Japanese attacks on Australia resulted from America orchestrating Japan into war so that Roosevelt could attack Germany. Australia declared war on Japan (not the other way around) and the Japanese government attacked Australia to try to get the Australian government to become a neutral country in the fighting. A couple of minutes consulting an Atlas and thinking about logistics proves that Japan was no threat to Australia (and Japanese cabinet records seized at the end of hostilities confirm this). This isn't hindsight, it was obvious at the time.

“The same people I'm sure you would be too gutless to present this opinion to personally.”

Depends on the circumstances. The Australian military has a long record of killing Australians and others within Australia. Prior to the Australian government declaring war on Japan, the Australian military killed Australians (and others in Australia) who were trying to prevent Australians dying in a conflict with Japan. This is referenced in “A Very Rude Awakening” by Peter Grose.

Then we have the two SAS men who killed for the Australian government in Port Arthur. The truth of Port Arthur will one day see the light of day. Poor old Martin Bryant had difficulty firing an air gun. I actually had the names of the two SAS men at one time. One subsequently died in a Black Hawk helicopter crash (in Queensland, I think). I'd like to give some more information about the SAS and Port Arthur but at the moment I can't.

As for my gutlessness or elsewise, I'm doing what I can to get some matters rectified and when that happens history can be the judge of my gutlessness, lack of dedication, stupidity and lack of character. You'll know me, I'll be the one on the television with the tobacco pipe telling the media to go penetrate themselves.

“...he would have done his job.” “This country would be rooted without men and women like him.”

Just like the guards at Auschwitz. That defence doesn't cut it any more, not after the Nuremberg Trials – although prior to those trials it did. How times change.

If it was good enough for him to obey his government like an unthinking robot why can't he do the same now? The government says its illegal to smoke dope so just pretend its an order and do your duty!

I don't know exactly when it will hit the media but the American military (despite denials) have been using depleted uranium near Shoalwater Bay in Queensland and using depleted uranium in Australian waters (that's been admitted). The guys who fired the shells were just doing their job as well. Shoalwater Bay produces a lot of Australia's lobsters and pineapples. When the cancers start, just blame these on tobacco smoking. No worries!

Aitarak Militia

Yes, this group was assisted by the Indonesian military. The military are great at killing innocent people. And I won't go into the idiocy of Goof Witless in the later part of 1975, idiocy that in part probably contributed to the Indonesian invasion.

“You sir are evil.”

What's that supposed to mean?

Evil because I resent arseholes in uniform travelling all over the world killing and maiming in my name? Evil because I'm against Australians dying and killing in Afghanistan so that a pipeline can be built or in Iraq because the Israelis didn't want to fight that war? Evil because I resent the 'collateral damage' children dying?

Vietnam

No one was forced to go to Vietnam. Anyone remember Simon Townsend? Some of those conscripted even had 'accidents' that prevented them from going overseas and killing men, women and children that they'd never met.

How exactly did the Vietnam war or the war in Iraq protect me 'so that an average Joe like you and me can live in this beautiful country'? No one ever explains this. There's all these vague, maudlin sentiments but never any details. Did Saddam have weapons of mass destruction like the Americans and Israelis do? Was he planning to use these against average Joes in Australia?

The Vietnam war was and the war in Iraq is based on a lie – both of them! Most wars are. Am I supposed to feel great about men and women dying for the sake of a lie? Is that what makes me evil?

“...you have to differentiate between government policy and those...who have to act it out with their blood and their minds and their lives.”

So just let me get this straight. If you are in the Australian military (conscripted or otherwise) you become an automaton? You have to obey all orders; fulfil all government policy; no conscious? Well if that's the case the government has declared marijuana illegal. Not only shouldn't he use it – he can't use it! Don't ask questions; just obey.

For the record, I'm an unashamed, doctrinaire Libertarian and as such I believe in the pronouncements of Major General Smedley Darlington Butler of the US Marines. He wrote a book called “War is a Racket” (published in 1935). It is a pity that so few people know of him or his book.

Evil, subversive, unAustralian Al.

Al, get your pipe and tap out the tobbaco, then repack it with cannabis.

Now put down your conspiracy books, ali foil etc and pick up some literature that explains PTSD.

We could be talking about a medicinal cannabis grower/user who suffered road trauma, assault, sexual abuse and many other non warlike triggers for PTS.

No matter what profession one has, their dharma is to it, correct? e.g. A lawyer with a conscience, wont practise long? He will do his job right? Prosecute, or defend.. or sort thro land bs etc.

Same for the fisherman, same for the soldier.

When they get crook, some find there way to where we are and what we know - cannabis. Then their duty is to become well, or try to maintain at least, with the help of cannabinoids.

Your Aitarak militia retort was lacking something.. Aussies want to defend, keep peace and not see human lives lost to genocide; empathy. Our infantry soldiers (and other corps) are invaluable, particularly in jungle situations like that one.

Are you forgetting the bombing raids off Darwin and Townsville in WW2? Kokoda? Aussies have put their lives in direct risk, for all of us here today - and those welcomed in the future.

The point you make is still in poor form Al. You're riding over a guy that's now ill. I can guarantee if you spoke to him like that, he'd be worse off and likely you would too.

Perhaps consider starting your own thread detailing your conspiracies, not trolling muck over a news story thread that is entirely relevant to cannabis, medicinal cannabis and the need to have it legalized.

Hope you can find some :yahoo: soon Al.
