NEED to grow hermaphrodite's - in need of seed!

Recommended Posts

g'day folks.

i had a mate few seasons ago pulled a small plant, twas hermaphrodite... he got like 10000 seeds of it and every single one is female.

over 200++ of them seeds have now grown into fully mature female plants. not a male in sight.

what i read somewhere here on the forums is that when you do pull a hermi, theres 3 ways ya seeds can go - all female, all male or half/half.

now - my mate has moved way too far away to get anymore of thease little babies. im friken kickn' meself. So i want to try and grow a few hermi's in a room, and try hopefully pull 1 batch of all female seeds.

if i grew a whole room of hermi's, does this mean that all the seeds can swing the same way ? in terms of weather they'll become all male or all fem ? or may i get 1 plant with all male seeds - and then another plant with all female ?

if anyone knows anything on the topic let me know. im 100% keen to setup half a room to pull a 10-15 hermi's..

thanks

EDIT - and please dont just tell me to use clones.. "as they are better" - because i want good fem seed for outdoors. clones go poo outdoors here in vic IMO.

seeds can be true hermi`s .... meaning they start as a male or female and then develope flowers/buds of the opposite sex .... these are the ones ya should be looking for ;) ....more to the point, you want a female dominant hermi...meaning a plant that has nice female bud formation and very little male flowers...along with trich size, leaf shape, internode spacing, smell....n so on. B)

so in order to find a true hermi with the desired traits you`ll need a shitload of beans with plenty of time and space up ya sleave lol

perhaps 1 or 2 mums for clones might be the go B) ...... i mean, if ya only after the seed to grow females for weight....and not to find the holey grail, then clones might be a cheaper quicker option. :/

having said all that, ya can create hermi`s by stressing the plants, in one way or another, but imo they are`nt the go >:( .... the stock/seed tends to lean towards the hermi/male side from what i`ve seen B) ... just think, if if donor is in bad health then surely then offspring would be too >:( .......just my way of thinkn :peace:

hope that helps

Chron lol

edit:>sorry i didnt see ya edit about the clones lol ..... they do work...i used to think they went shit outside too >:( ... just practice with the hardening off.....eventually you`ll tap in and ya clones will go off tap :nono:

i like to plant mine out from november onwards and im not too far from vic ;)

Hi AHTB. The way to produce all female seeds (or the way seed banks do it) is to induce a female flower to produce pollen. Theoretically also you can use hermaphrodite pollen to increase the instance of female plants. It's all a case of genetics and x and y. I'll leave the rest for others to explain.

EIther sprout a shitload or if you want it to spit out boy bits then stress it during flower. Fluctuated light patterns, slight leaks, slightly higher than average temps... I am sure if you chucked a bunch in you would be able to get a boy out of them surely... if not then any of the above should work.

lol i just read above that people have already suggested most of what i wrote, i really should read the whole thread.

There are a few ways that a true female can be forced to produce staminate flowers the concept has nothing to do with true hermaphrodites when referring to feminised seeds though. True Hermaphrodites do not produce feminine seed , they are a throw back of the normally dieocious species and using them as breeding parents is not a good way to achieve a healthy hybrid

A Hermie is born a hermie and will likely give allot of hermie offspring not feminine seeds. However the other methodology of triggering the plants natural stress mechanism in a pure female is widely accepted as one of the better methods to create feminised seed

The way I treat it is if I am not actively trying to stress a staminate flower out of a clone yet when it gets into flower it is showing signs of hermaphrodism then eighter A) It's a hermie and I don't want it in my room or B ) Whatever genetics make up the hybrid made it prone to stress and throwing out staminate flowers allong with calyxes .. In either case I take them from my room.

Personaly speaking I find it all a dilution of the plants gene-pool , I prefer my strains to be bred from true dieocous parents but thats just a personal preference

^^controlled trauma... sounds interesting lol

l.ol, first did it by accident trying to bend a plant over that was heavily in flower. Works best with lolly-popped clones that are at least a couple of feet tall, wait until the donor is well into flower and bend the meristem 2/3 to 3/4 of the way down until it completely creases. Stand it up and stake upright. A week later repeat procedure a few cms higher up the meristem, creasing in the opposite direction. Two goes is usually enough to get most girls to produce pollen, but plan for 3 and you can be sure you wont run out of stem to traumatize before she pops pollen bags.

Femming is a useful seed production practice, but a poor breeding practice. If you are working with a line of seed and still wish to refine or alter the genetics, use males for seed production.
