Recommended Posts

hi all this is my 3rd grow in garden shed 3.0x2.0x1.8m im using 3000watts hps. I have had nothing but problems with the heat this summer With the temp getting up to 58 degress in my grow box, there not growing in this hot leaving dying look like total shit. My last cycle temps were getting to 40 with NO OUT TAKE, they looked better then this time with good outake. maybe a good solution to buy portable aircon? ive noticed my portable aircon i got for my house says its has an active carbon filter, negative ion generator and tio2 lamp is this anygood? Or do anyone have cheaper ideas on keeping temp down in the summer? Also the water in my resorvior gets to about 40 degress is this ok im always refilling it keeping it cool but would like to know if it is a problem thanks.

Hi gottabextc,

Also the water in my resorvior gets to about 40 degress is this ok im always refilling it keeping it cool but would like to know if it is a problem thanks.

Aye gotta .......... 40 @ root zone is disastrous. Some water gurus (other members) may have suggestions later.

I know circulation, agitation and aeration helps, but ice comes to mind as a coolant. If that's your temps @ the roots hate to see your room temps.

All the best finding options.

wow man thats hot!! some folk freeze 2lt plastic bottles of water then put them in the resiviour to keep water cool but i fear your heat is even beyond that ... what about evaporative air cooler, if ya had big enuf one but might look suss hooked up to shed? cause they are low electricty use and do bring temps down, but can start mould if its humid area ... sorry im not much help am i :)

yea i think you have to stick to growing shitloads in the cooler months to carry ya through the summer, then ya gunna have extreme cold in winter too  ... its a battle aye :wallbash:

hay mate

might be worth droping your watts during sumer

3000 watts in that aera in sumer with no a/c,, wot a nightmare

if you are only in veg i would drop to 1000w or two 600w and at least they should start growing again

than put the other lights back in as it cools

sprinkler on shead roof during hotest part of the day will help aswell

Well In winter summer I always use a "cool tube" to cool my lights.

I use the cool tube in winter as well because it allows the plants to grow much closer to the lights.

They usually make 400 and 600w cool tubes but just ask your local hydro store to order you in 690mmx150mm tube.

this fits 1000w+ lights. They wont cost more that $120, and if they do, go next door :)

You also are going to need a decent fan to suck a good volume of air through the tubes past the lights.

An ideal setup would include a centrifugal fan, a carbon filter and multiple cool tubes with lower wattage lights, say 600's.

Good luck,

Portable a/c will kill two birds with one stone as you can duct from it to cool your lights and room and also have ducting running to your rez acting as a water chiller.

You can even collect the water from the a/c and use it on your plants, it's essentially distilled water and will have an almost 0ppm reading. No buffers will mean ph will rise or drop very easily though when adding nutes etc so be prudent.

If you are working tin shed, get some decent shade cloth to cover the roof. Suspended above the roof by a couple of cms to create a breezeway is best, but just draped over the top will help stop radiant heat from the sun.

Then you only have to deal with the heat being generated inside the shed.
