LED lights on the cheapo

Recommended Posts

Sup,

first time poster, short time lurker.

so I have been doing some research on low-heat LED lighting systems and it seems to me that you can make a very cheap system in about 15 min, using blue and red led's and some Christmas lights.

It seems that, blue LED lights by their nature of being blue, emit about 460nm wavelength (perfectly in the chlorophyll absorption range in the vegetative state 400 - 500 nm) and red LEDs by their nature of being red emit 660nm wavelengths (perfectly in the chlorophyll absorption range in budding state 600-700nm)

dick smith/jaycar and others sell these for about .20 - 50c each.

It seems that I can pin a blue LED filled Christmas light to a board and blammo! i have a light.

OR IS THIS TO EASY TO BE TRUE?

would really appreciate any comments on this.

Hey kingfisher welcome.

I'd firstly suggest to do some more research for finished and harvested grows under leds then come back with your thoughts. That is of course if you can find any or anything that you would even consider posting the results of.

Quite simply you won;t find many if any of worth... The practical technology hasn;t caught up to the concept yet.

Wish you luck on your quest.

a test on growing under LED

seems to work......

I'm thinking that 125 LED lights 85%red 10% Blue 5% white is all you need.

Looks like im off to the christmas shop to get me some dirt cheap lights....

keeping the little fellas warm seems to be an issue, must keep that in mind.

That's not exactly a harvested or finished grow and the plants are tiny.

It not something of worth in terms of a serious or even hobby/personal growers perspective, it;s nothing more than an experiment in the authors own words.

Not knocking you just suggesting you keep looking for a harvested guide so as not to dissapoint yourself when you yield an ounce for your 4 months work.

Bet the cops would label it a sophisticated set-up too even if all it is is bells and whistles...

I'm gonna give it a go with a LED panel I've just bought off ebay. 1stly, I'll declare: I'm not the worlds best gardener.

I'm starting outdoors then bringing inside for privacy reasons and have found the natural light through the only window in a good position has been enough to kick off but recent up-n-down weather has meant too much inconsistency for my purposes. Hopefully I can contribute some pics, cause the theory seems pretty interesting to me and I hope to present some good results for other novice growers looking for a cheap indoor lighhting solution.
