Where to begin?

Hello,

Firstly I've never grown a plant before so I don't even know where to start. Before I buy anything (seeds, soil etc) I want to be confident I have a fair idea on what I'm doing.

Few points -

I live in SE QLD, temps are a pretty consistent 30 degrees now and the rainy season has begun. I'm assuming it's too late to grow anything and I should wait to around September right?

I want to grow outdoors. Not where I live though, in some bushland somewhere near where I live. I want to pick somewhere near a water source with lots of existing healthy greenery (i.e. grass, shrubs, trees etc), and preferably near a water source. Somewhere where no one else will likely go.

I assume I germinate and nurture the little seedlings to a point in which they'll be big and strong enough to transplant to some outdoor site I've set up? Or can I avoid that and simply plant them at the site in some fresh soil I've laid down and regularly water for the first couple of weeks to bring them to life?

I don't want to have to transport water to this site regularly (or to be constantly checking on everything all the time), I'd like to set things up properly in the first instance so nature can take its course.

Any advise (and links to any good online outdoor growing guides) would be appreciated
