Dope grower avoids jail to look after mother

Recommended Posts

A long-term drug user from Tasmania convicted of drug trafficking will avoid jail so he can look after his mother.

Troy Leigh Speed, 32, lives with his mother in New Norfolk.

A jury found him guilty of trafficking and cultivating cannabis.

The Court heard he grew plants in the bush near Hamilton, harvested them and dried the cannabis.

Speed had more than 20 one-ounce bags of marijuana but claimed it was for personal use.

Supreme Court Justice Helen Wood told the court the 32-year-old had a lengthy history for drug offending.

She sentenced him to six months jail, but suspended it on a two-year good behaviour order.

20 ounces is quite within the realm of possible personal use.

Don't they know many outdoor marijuana growers only harvest once per year?

20 ounces for a whole year? It wouldn't last me.. Especially if I had enough to make my marijuana milk... With that I go through an ounce every 4 days... Thus it would only take me 80 days to go through 20 ounces!
