Man intent on growing own drugs

Recommended Posts

A MOUNTAIN Creek man told a magistrate yesterday that he grew his own marijuana crops because he refused to fund the Sunshine Coast's illegal drug trade.

Terry John Lanigan said it did not matter what penalty the magistrate handed down, he would continue to grow organic cannabis for him and his partner to use.

“I don't support the local marijuana trade,” he said.

“I grow 12 to 15 plants a year, have done for many years. I grow that for myself.

“We don't sell it. We just smoke a little bit of pot.

“We get four crops a year to support me and my wife. We're both on pensions.

“I don't mean to be cheeky, but I'll always continue to smoke marijuana and grow a little bit of marijuana for myself.”

Police prosecutor Leonie Scott had told Maroochydore Magistrates Court police found seven cannabis plants, about 30cm high, when they searched Mr Lanigan's home about 11am on December 4.

Police found two home-made bongs, electric scales and a coffee grinder associated with drug use.

Police also found 234g of cannabis, but Mr Lanigan said “only three ounces” was dried and ready to use.

“I don't feel I'm harming anyone,” he said.

Magistrate Chris Callaghan said statistics clearly showed a link between regular cannabis use and mental illness. Mr Lanigan must pay a $300 fine.

Thanks grace and good for him.

Magistrates always come out with some crap and this time it is the 'link between cannabis use and mental illness.'

They want to try some decent research before repeating lies.

Nearly every problem 'caused' by cannabis was a pre-existing condition.
