Reverse Osmosis

Recommended Posts

I've found I can never find anything I'm looking for via the search function on most forums without having to wade through 20 pages of posts only to find one highlighted search term amongst each post.

I am looking to install a whole of house water filtration unit and high capacity RO Filter, but not sure which to get. All the versions I see online seem to be either massive, read Lotsa $$, commercial units or basically rebadged OEM units originating from the same factory in China.

So I thought I might collect some information to share regarding RO and Whole of house filters and some of my fellow OZ Stoners reports, good and bad, on the units they've tried.

So, please, if you have a unit you would recommend or one you certainly wouldn't please post a link to the supplier you've dealt with.

I have dealt with These Guys a few times both for myself and for a few friends that where in the market for a filter and they have always been quite reliable

Though unfortunately I'm no help as to suggesting a filter that will do a whole house-hold knowing what it cost to have an isolated system put in which just consisted of piping from the storage area and a tap for a friends room though I can tell you that what your after is no cheap excersise

Best of luck with ti and I do appologise I couldn't be of more assistance , though you will likely find that the number of people running entirely filtered water systems would be pretty slim do to the wastage / cost factor and it simply not being worth it for some things. A system installed for drinking water or their grow that is used for multiple task is more than likely what your likely to find imo

Thanks Pure,

The whole of house filters aren't that pricery $200-$500, which are basically 3 20" filters, carbon, and two sediment filters of varying sizes, on a mount.

I would like an RO unit downstream of that which would have a relatively high capacity output.

Has anyone used the units available on eBay?

I believe I misunderstood , I thought you wanted to actually pipe in the ro filter to basically replace the mains which is where the cost was I was referring to though still only taking a few K for nice piping. and it's generally handled by a filter more like this one CLick Me

The 200-500$ units that I am aware of cap off at about 400 -500 liters of water , this is what I run and can confirm that they realistically from that much water put through give back only about 300 liters would this service your household ok ?

I have seen quite a few DIY kits available aswell mostly aimed at aquarium keepers though my concern was always filter replacement for any unit that I bought

The ones in the link provided for the most part are quite readily available in Australia and use quite generic parts
