Dope plants found in Gold Coast raid

A LARGE cannabis crop and a commercial hydroponic system have been uncovered and three people arrested in a drug raid on the Gold Coast.

The marijuana plants were found after detectives from the State Crime Operations Command drug investigation unit executed a search warrant on a Guanaba property, near Mt Tamborine.

During the search, investigators from the Cultivated Drug Operation team discovered a large shed which had allegedly been converted for the purpose of hydroponically growing cannabis.

According to police, 120 mature cannabis plants, large amounts of hydroponic and harvesting equipment, were found as well as eight kilograms of dried and packaged cannabis.

Police also seized a large amount of cash, four motorcycles, a jetski and a 4WD, all believed to be proceeds of crime.

Police allege those responsible had also stolen significant volumes of electricity in order to maintain the commercial production.

Detective Superintendent John Pointing said the set-up was sophisticated and well-organised.

"The system was certainly put together with a good deal of expertise and definitely capable of producing large amounts of commercial grade cannabis," he said.

Three people, a 29-year-old man, a 28-year-old woman and a 37-year-old man, have each been charged with produce drug, possess property used in the commission of an offence and one count of steal electricity.

They have been bailed to appear at Beenleigh Magistrates Court on 11 January 2010.

In a separate drug raid, police also arrested two men and seized boats, motorcycles and drug equipment near Yatala, south of Brisbane.

At Alberton, near Yatala, two men were charged after police executed a search warrant on the Zipfs Road address.

Following a search of the address, detectives found glassware for the clandestine manufacture of methylamphetamine and numerous cannabis plants.

Property, including two boats, two boat trailers, a builder's trailer, two Honda motorcycles, a large quantity of construction equipment and vehicle tyres were also seized.

It is alleged the property had been stolen from locations on the Gold Coast.

A 33-year-old man from Alberton has been charged with producing a drug, possession of a drug, possession of a utensil and seven counts of receiving stolen property.

A 35-year-old man from Ormeau Hills has been charged with possession of a drug, producing a drug, possession of drug property, possession of a relevant thing and possession of a relevant substance.

Both men are due to appear in the Beenleigh Magistrates Court on January 5, 2010.

Stealing electricity lol

yeah, i cannot help but to notice that around 90% or more of the grows that get sprung are for stealing power... obviously the power companies have a reasonable ability to track where power is going missing. And i am quite sure more than happy to help the police in investigations where they are losing money. It should be something that all people consider before stealing juice... is the extra savings really worth it ??? i just don't understand it surely people can link up that stealing power = busted in the near future.

I can guarantee there's SOOOO many more people that steal power and don't get busted.

Granted it's still unwise. Power company obviously doesn't wanna lose any money.

But more importantly.... This is THE worst set of charges I have seen. Ever!

possession of a utensil

ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME!?

possession of a relevant thing

Fuck, I'd debate that in court on the grounds that the cops are clearly incompetent morons and probably just made all this shit up.
