bufo marinus
if the guns were licensed they probably wouldn't be mentioned in the article. fuck off BCS. They found 169 plants AND 72Kg of already harvested shit. The guy is a commercial grower, and being stupid enough to get caught should cop it on the chin. Guns = your talking out your arse again Baron. Cop it on the chin? Just because you'd cop it up the arse doesn't mean everyone else would. You should get a job as a Legal Aid lawyer they love people pleading guilty. Not nice to tell people to fuck off either Baron, that usually means YOU GOT NOTHING

sparkler
They probably didn't make a big deal about the guns in the article as they probably weren't a big deal in the case itself. Even if this guy didn't have a license and was holding 5 rifles....the fact is 5 rifles VS 72kg of weed doesn't seem or sound like a big thing, especially when one sentence about it is thrown into an article. The article is obviously mainly about the guy's verdict when it came to the amount of cannabis he had. As it says in the article, the judge found this to be by no means a sophisticated operation, the judge also listened to the honest opinions of the people this man worked with and worked for and the opinions of people within the community - and the judge also took into account the fact this man has a wife and 2 young children who he obviously loves and who obviously love and need him. I will never be comfortable with the term "cannabis addiction" however the judge also took into account that this man was using weed for his own personal use and is/was dependant on it and was growing mainly for his own use...I think it said he supplied it to a friend on two occasions so that hardly constitutes as "dealing". Most of his crop was crap and as the article states, most of it would of had to of been discarded anyway. I personally think this verdict was a superb outcome not just for the man and his family but for everyone else too! That includes growers, users, suppliers...everyone involved with weed in whatever way!! The fact is this guy was guilty of using, supplying and growing cannabis and instead of being seen as some degenerate, junkie, asshole scum of society - he was seen as the man he IS....a husband, a father, and a respected man in his community who grew weed for his own use. The fact that someone most of us here can relate to doesnt' have to go to jail for something that shouldn't be illegal in the first place and the fact that our legal system CAN sometimes get it right is a very positive thing in my eyes
BaronS
NO-ONE needs 73kg and 169 plants on the go for 'me and my mate's' personal use. it would take me years to smoke 73kg of leaf.
MongyMan
Well as has been said.....it's a good thing your not the judge then isn't it BaronS. At what point would you say the line has crossed from personal to commercial? Would you count plant numbers, maby weigh all the plants, do both or something totally different? As someone who grows primarily for the interest of breeding, this mentality of "oh that was obviously commercial so its ok he got busted" pisses me off. You would judge my setup as commercial without a doubt simply based on plant numbers BaronS is my guess, even though it's no more commercial than your own, and if I got busted would you be one of the fuckwits saying oh he deserved it? IT'S NOT OK FOR ANYONE TO GET BUSTED FFS. Here is a situation where the system has 'gone soft' (for want of a better phrase) on a person who grows cannabis and you think it's a bad thing? Fair dinkum mate, get off your moral high horse. Peace MongyMan
BaronS
by whatever measure 73kg of existing harvest and 169 bushies on the boil IS NOT PERSONAL USE.

sparkler
Even IF he was growing for commercial use...should he be sent to jail in your opinion, Baron? I agree with Mongy. NOBODY should be getting busted, period. No growers, users or dealers should be jailed or punished for growing, supplying or using cannabis. The fact that the judge was probably "soft" in this case is a fantastic thing and I think anyone involved with weed in any way would most likely agree with that..
