What does your tap water read for you Perth growers out there please?

Was thinking of getting RO system for my RDWC set up that im gonna build but not sure if its gonna be worth the extra expense but it could be if we have pretty hard water here...

Can anybody in Perth give me some readings?

Thanks!

Depends on which catchment you are in. Some of them are downright nasty with 0.8 - 1.0 ec and sometimes pH rises as high as 8.5 out of the tap. Other local supplies are much, much nicer than this. If you want a rough idea about your local supply without having to pull out the ec meter or ph tester then send the Water Corp an email asking for catchment water quality details. They'll send them on to you no problems, it's a common enough request and they're always happy to help. Got a shiteload of info from them a while back on just about every catchment in Perth once, have to dig that out of my pc eventually.

Get an RO if you're thinking about it, you'll probably be happier with pure water. Just remember it has no buffering capacity and will drop pH like a rock if you add too much pH down or even some acidic additives to the tank.

btw, only the prefilters (sediment and carbon sections) of the RO unit need replacing yearly, preferably 6 monthly if you want the best life from your membrane. The membrane itself is usually rated to last 5 years odd depending on the manufacturer and care.
