Left them a couple more days thinkin they would shoot out but am still

waiting.?? The root has popped his head but only about .5cm??? :D :D

If it helps, pedrosweed, I did some germination experiments and found -

That a seed left on a towel so long that it gets a very long root is ultimately not usually as vigorous a plant as it should be.

Seeds put into soil the moment you see the little root do much better.

Seeds put straight into soil (not on a towel at all) take longer to germinate, but are by far the happiest/strongest plants.

Good advice there anna :D

"The less interference the roots get the faster and stronger the growth"is one of my old man's main grow tips, always proved correct in my experience.

When growing outdoors I now germinate in water (until 80 or 90% of seeds have split), transfer to seedraising mix for a week or two (until second set of true leaves are established), then they go straight in the ground.

next time forget the cotton wool and tissue too high a risk of damaging the roots unless you plant the wool/cotton with the seed.

I normally use a small very clean glass with a ml of rhizotonic with water or plain water, at first the seeds float by morning the best/ fresh sink. By 24 hours all should have sunk and the first split if not give them a poke, still not sinking chances are there no good but keep them in the glass. Once you have you popped beans spoon them into small cups of soil, oil on your fingers isnt to good for the root tip.

The easy method

find some small seed raising trays like what bunnings sell there seedlings in or a ice tray from the freezer (drilled for drainage). Pre soak your meduim like coco in a rhizotonic/ seaweed extract let it sit then drain excess water away. fill your seed trays with lightly squeezed soil/coco and plant your seed. Put the lunch box or ice trays into a dark cupboard for a day or two then straight under flouros (wont need to water much) if its the right time of the year like now put them in partial light or under a shade cloth for the first days before going under full light and bigger pots so you only need to water once daily.

Ive had seed take 3 months to come up, its all about having as close to ideal conditions (spring) Outdoors you could throw seed in a garden bed in winter and they can lay dormant till spring or late Aug..

Glad you got them up look after and they will reward you 10 fold.
