homemade carbon filter

Recommended Posts

for a room that size dont mess around trying to make a filter

the money you use to construct one would be better spent on a factory built one.

with a carbon can filter you will need a centrifugal fan as they are designed to push air

where an inline fan moves the air.

for air in you can have a passive(no fan) intake.

dont waste you money on a cheap ceiling exhaust fan it will most likely burn out

if your going to cut corners on the fan there is no point going with a decent sized filter, maby try an odor sock on a good home exhaust fan you will manage if only one light but you wont have the air flow really needed to cool during summer and reduce mould problems in winter.

I put the word out at my local grow shop that i wanted an old filter to refill, a week later i had a few used filters to choose from. I ended choosing the same as i already have 3foot mountain air. Anyway got it home put on a fan and found it was caked with dust and 90% blocked so i took it outside pressure cleaned and run a hose through it till water ran clean. the caked filter actally killed the old owners fan so it is worth cleaning them once yearly as well as replacing the outer liner.

Left to dry in the summer sun for a week it now has good air flow using a good centrifugal CanFan lx 250mm. There seems to be no resistance against fan at this point so i cleaning it worked well enough saved a few bucks on a refill atleast.

Btw have alooksie at the Can Fan range of centrifugal fans or simular if there avaliable locally. alittle birdy told me about there newer lines in 250mm and 300mm sizes. They are big LPH fans suited to job at hand, multi light grows while pushing more air than the current lx 250 i have at the same time doing it quieter.

fan and filters are one of the most important parts of any decent grow, i really think its worth doing it right the first time. which means a new unit, filter shape you require and fan sized to your room are important and arnt that expensive when it may just keep you stealth.

Did you end up finishing and testing your carbon filter?

I made one years ago and it was total crap, so I've used a store bought

one since. The odour sock mentioned in previous post was also shitty. It

cut down the pulling power of the fan by heaps, and I bought an oversized

centrifugal fan for the job, and, it did not work at effectively filteriing the

smell. I vented into into my roof ( It was only for a veg cupboard 2m high

x 2m wide x 1 metre deep) and it stunk up the whole house.

Good luck

hey buddy what ive done was lashed out on a good fan the fits a carbon filter, and you only need to use

it for 2 - 3 weeks when it pongs the rest of the time it can be left off.. so yea im going to lash out on one when

the time is needed it easer to just buy one!
