To me it personaly looks like a problem with the medium being to compact for them to spread there roots, I have found the best medium for autos is coco as if doesn't compact and is very light and airy so the roots and spread threw it very easily. Also when growing autos the tap root likes to go very very deep, the deeper it goes the bigger your plant will be, so opt for pots that a taller rather than wider

Agree - looks like 'el cheapo compo'

 

I recon 3 weeks hard time yet healthy - hard time due to lack of 'run-out' (drainage/trough-put) .
