1st grow...advice?

Hey all,

 

Me an my flatmate have decided to start our first grow.. after many years of smoking and dreaming of smoking our own fresh produce.

 

We have a 2 foot outdoor grown female (which only now seems to be flowering) that we plan to clone off and a led grow light panel we bought a few months back.

 

We only want a small setup (3-4 plants) and the plants to be as small and bushy as possible, since we move around alot.

 

Any tips or advice for beginners?

that ad sounds like the ballast may not 'be available'.

 

2 shades and a lamp. no ballast. Not ideal.

 

edit. oo, hang on. A 'Powerplant shade' may include a ballast. (which also sortta makes sense for the ad)

Not really, I'm one of those odd CFL users.

 

400W HID @<$200, including shade and ballast, sounds reasonable. 8 of my Nelson 48W CFL would be similar, but probably greater, cost. (my cheapo fluoros would be well under that though)

 

You also mention an existing LED panel, details?

think that ebay ad meant to read jb ballast or powerplant ballast(not shade) dependin on availablity....

Well the best would be both hps ,and mh at the same time but if you cant run both at the same time buy a conversion lamp i used to have one and i would use the mh during veg cyle cause its the best spectrum to use in veg and the hps during flowering same reason best spectrum. i took a quick look and found this http://cgi.ebay.com.au/600-Watt-Switchable...436500511QQcmdZ this is a 600 watt i had a 400 watt my self and some times grew up to 6 plants at a time it only cost me $100.00 usd. good luck and dont keep them too close to the plants try and keep the light about a foot to 16 inchs away.You will have to have good ventalation as well other wise it will be to hot for the plants in the grow room.

Hey man, that first light in the link you gave the 400w light is okay, its not the best light obv but it will get the job done... you do get the globe, ballast and shade ( @ nouseforaname i think you got it mixed up mate, pretty sure powerplant shade are a ballast making company)

 

hey ganjafarmer, the link you gave him is a wicked light but its ganna cost $100+ to get the light shipped here, for a total of $310+ , which might be a good deal but being a newb i dont think he wants to spend that much

we ended up purchasing a 400 hps and ballast, its set up in a 1metre x 1 metre at 1.5 metre high box. how important is ventilation? ive enclosed the box and it does get heated.. i dont wanna leave to much of it open as it preojects too much light.

cool buy ! , but in that space not so cool but can be hot especially since were coming into a 'global warming' Summer.

 

A light is 1/2 a grow kit to make it all really nice a fam will top it off well.
