Aussies use more cannabis than Europeans

The paper, published in The Lancet, included a UN Office on Drugs and Crime estimate that cannabis was used by 166 million people, or 3.9 per cent of the global population aged 15 to 64 years, during 2006.

Prof Degenhardt said a different study in 2007 found 9.1 per cent of Australians aged 14 to 65 reported using cannabis in the past year - one of the highest usage rates in the world.

Those statistics represent MASSIVE numbers of people ... Therefore there is no doubt that Cannabis is the safest and most effective ... most common "illicit" drug on the face of the planet.

If it were otherwise then the problems caused by the substance would be plainly obvious and clearly show the detriment of such widespread and and condoned use ... and the fact is that there is simply NO evidence to support the theory that Common Cannabis use can be somehow detrimental to society.

Sure there are "researchers" trying to prove that something or anything is a "Bad" side-effect of consuming the substance ...

If you take for example Coffee , Beer or Red Wine ... and the conflicting research over the many years as to whether these substances are "good" or "bad" for you in certain amounts is totally bunk ... 2 glasses is good for you , 2 glasses is not good for you ... Surely the individual can judge for themselves??

Because of the diversity of this Country (and of course the massive amount of land that exists here) ... It is totally plausible that we would rank highly in relation to Cannabis use and other factors surrounding ...

The plant grows extremely well in most parts of the country ... (We) mostly have a "laid-back" attitude towards experience , fun and pleasure ... relatively educated as a whole ... and made up of so many different backgrounds and cultures (many of which have held the Cannabis plant in it's rightful esteem for centuries and beyond) ...

It's only reasonable that Australia rank in the top line of most diverse and "pro-active" countries on the globe ...

It could always be better ofc. :D

Yeah thats true, the sensitivity of peoples airways vary greatly, ie some peoples are over sensitive like in asthma, this means that when they inhale irritants such as smoke their airways can become inflamed. With inflammation comes white blood cells and increased mucus production. The mucus blocks your small airways and so you start to cough in order to clear them, chronic bronchitis is technically defined as a productive cough for more than 3 months. It can lead to lung fibrosis (makes your lungs less elastic) and the chronic cough can give you a hernia or haemorrhoids.

Not too sure about the heart attack risk but i guess it relates to the fact that smoking cannabis causes a tachycardia (increased heart rate) and in people with heart disease this could lead to a heart attack, or in other people it could reveal an electrical fault in the heart which also kill you.

Easy ways to help avoid things like this are excecise and healthy diet. For smokers (weed and cigarettes alike) swimming is good because it helps increasing your cardiovascular and respiratory fitness.

I agree mostly with your sentiment there Elwood ...

Though there is evidence to show that Cannabis can have a protective effect for the lungs ... also there are quite a few people with asthma that actually benefit from the effects , even through smoking it ...

So of course excess smoke is no good for the lungs ... but Cannabis smoke has been shown to actually act positively for the humanoid body in so many ways that it shouldn't be discounted ... and as for smoke ... well , I think that we would be well adapted to breathing in smoke from Organic matter given that "FIRE" has been one of the most beneficial "discoveries" since the dawning of "humanity" and as a consequence gives off alot of smoke that generations have breathed in to some extent throughout history ... as for modern-day POLLUTION ... That's nasty business and better left for another forum no doubt. :)

As for increased heart-rate ... I've read that this is with only certain individuals .. others have a normal or possibly slowed heart rate after imbibing ...

I tend to think that that is correct , but also that the Strain of Cannabis used plays a part ... I DO get an increased heart-rate personally ... but not always ... a potent Sativa dominant strain can have me at a high heart-rate and even induce slight anxiety ... But some different strains (sometimes more Indica dominant) can have the reverse effect ... I will be relaxed , heart-rate decreased and so on ...

This is not a guess (on my part) ... It is based on experience ... but there is so much diversity among the Cannabis Strains also that it doesn't make it as easy as "Black and White" ... "Sativa or Indica" ... Benificial or detrimental".

Therefore , surely more research must be done on this most common and utilized plant as soon as possible ... considering the possible benefits and the prevelance of advocation one would think that this would be essential in moving forward as a "civilized" society.

Well , I was going to type alot more but I think that will do for now

(before the dial-up drops out) ...

Cheerz All :D

P.s.

Despite this, the paper concludes the health burden imposed by cannabis use on Australia was "probably modest" compared to the illness and injury caused by alcohol, tobacco and other illicit drugs.

"Cannabis use caused 0.2 per cent of total disease burden in Australia - a country with one of the highest reported rates of cannabis use," the paper said.

Alcohol accounted for 2.3 per cent of the nation's disease burden while tobacco came in at 7.8 per cent.

"Probably Modest" !?!?!? yeh , nice one ... check out "The Facts" ... Check out "The Numbers" ... 0.2 , 'nuff said. (How much is the Pharmaceutical "Burden" costly to society? ... we wait in hope for those figures , yeh right)
