1,500 cannabis plants seized in raids

Posted Tue Oct 13, 2009 1:09pm AEDT

Eight people have been arrested during drug raids in Melbourne's south-east and northern suburbs this morning.

Police searched 15 properties at Tecoma, Berwick, Skye, and Greensborough, uncovering a large number of cannabis crops and cash.

The arrests come after a six month investigation by Victoria Police.

Almost 1,500 cannabis plants have been seized in the raids.

Sergeant Maurie Ryan says a large amount of cash and heavy earthmoving equipment were also found.

"It's the belief of police that the earthmoving equipment was to be used also later on in relation to the cultivation of cannabis crops," he said.
