MH and HPS leaking chrome gas?

gday all quick question, i have 1xMH 250w and 1xHPS 250w bulbs i found in the shed. both work fine and light up perfectly. only problem is near where the glass joins to the metal its like some chrome gas or something is leaking and stained the glass maybe 2-3 cms up it. whats this mean? im thinking its on its way out. if so what will happen? will it pop? glass everywhere? fire? worst case scenario ??? best way to get max life out of whats left in it???

put an overload protector on the mains where she plugs in and run it till it bzzz goes out . i;ve never had a globe go pop unless i hit it with water .

 

could always buy new globes , you reap cash back in bud quantity and quality

i also have the ballast to run both of them does that cut the power supply out if something were to blow??? i just got off the phone to a fellow grower and he was saying something about an "implosion" rather then an explosion. he said it will all be sucked into the centre and then blown outwards and glass everywhere......any thruth behind that??? could i put it inside some sort of clear perspex cylinder that could protect the grow room from "broken glass" but yet emmit the light rays through the perspex??

EDIT: btw, very excited this time round hoping to use a mix of these HID's and the sun (apprently sun puts out 2000w per square metre)

first grow using crappy cfl'z got abit bigger then this, then had to put it outside, and she died.

I would buy some new globes. I know with fluro's when they are nearly dead the get dark at the ends. Could be the same thing. Don't think it is leaking or it would not work at all.

just got home from my local shop (asking for advice) pretty much said the same thing what my mate told me and ended buying another 1 of each. he had me at hello, basterd !!!

 

hopefully there's no more dramas after this. WOOT WOOT seed casings fell off this morning and nice lil green leaves appeared. back in the race =P
