Labor's cannabis laws are likely to be repealed within weeks.

The Premier Colin Barnett has announced plans to repeal Labor's cannabis laws within a fortnight.

Mr Barnett made the commitment to change the laws at the last election.

He says the new legislation will make it illegal to cultivate cannabis plants, and the legal possession limit will be reduced from 30 grams to 10 grams.

The laws will also make it illegal to sell cannabis smoking implements.

Mr Barnett also reaffirmed plans to introduce laws giving police greater powers to stop and search people for weapons without having to prove grounds of suspicion.

The powers would apply to designated areas requested by the Police Commissioner, such as Northbridge or the Scarborough beachfront.

Mr Barnett admits the move will raise concerns about the possible infringement of civil liberties.

He says it is sad that violence and anti-social behaviour in Perth has reached a point where the laws are necessary.

"It is giving quite extraordinary powers to police but police will operate under their own guidelines and protocols," he said.

"It will not be abused."

The Police Commissioner Karl O'Callaghan has welcomed the proposed new laws.

He says officers will no longer be required to have suspicion that a person is carrying a weapon or drugs in order to search them.

"Well we're obviously looking for weapons, we're obviously looking for drugs, they're the two main things we would be looking for as part of the legislation," he said.

"We will be using metal detectors, particularly the hand held type of metal detector in this type of search as well."

Gee , Do Ya Think? ...

Maybe because searching people without probable cause is exactly that ... a massive blow to the human rights of anyone.

This is dispicable ...

Sure It's not like the police haven't been doing this for years anyway ... i.e. persecuting people because of they way they look much of the time ... your hair or your clothes are too long/too short/too colourful/too non-traditional or you wear headwear , you might be a drug-dealer at minimum ... possibly a terrorist nowadays also. :sly:

Now they want to "make legal" this unjust practice that has made the Police THE MOST HATED government sanctioned authority that exists in society today. (Am I wrong?). Where is the common sense in all of this.

In saying that , of course I understand ... there are a vast number of people out there who are acting out in a dangerous and distasteful manner ... they exist all over the planet (in this case , no , not the Bilderberg group and the Illumninati Co.) ...

The Harmful Criminal elements of society exist and there has to be laws in place to deal with such elements one would suppose ... But is searching anyone without justification to do so really a decent pro-active measure ...

What are the terms? ... they would be at at Police officers discression? ...

Judging individuals on their appearance is what they mean ... and that already exists , albeit supposedly illegally. :peace:

Hello Police State! ... I couldn't have said it betterly in 3 words myself. Spot On ... Incrementalization is right ... and before we even know it ... ... ... ... POW!!! ;)

How is the article ... Starts With Cannabis ... Then goes on to include Weapons ... Ultimate detain and search powers ... "Because of Perths Problems recently" ...

"It is giving quite extraordinary powers to police but police will operate under their own guidelines and protocols," he said.

"It will not be abused."

Oh really ... like how the laws already aren't abused!? ... This gives Police further powers to discriminate and also engage in corrupt behaviours. There is no Garuantee against prejudice in this matter. There Is ONLY Cause for people to remain innocent until proven guilty (Which seems so far away in the past to even consider relevant these days).

If They want more public enemies all they have to do is further erode our freedoms and rights.

Their brain-washing and slave-bashing hasn't yet given them ultimate rule over the masses ... When the People Rise-Up they must submit ... (or Nuke Us All) :uhhuh:

Well , I'm almost having fun ranting about it (in a black-comedy type of way) ... It's a shame to have to stop now but I'm almost out of Beer .. I mean .. Time ;)

And THAT"S Stressful :peace: harhar.

What was the topic again? :peace:

Cheerz,

Budman ;)

These are links to the 3 parties concerned:

ALP - http://www.wa.alp.org.au/

Liberal - http://www.wa.liberal.org.au/

Greens WA - http://wa.greens.org.au/

They all have "Contact Us" links from their homepages, where anybody here who cares to can lodge their protest. Remember we only get the government that we deserve, and that means if we don't bother writing in how we feel then we have no right to complain about what they do to us.
