Light Size and plant growth density and form

Recommended Posts

Hi all, my name is..... shirt and I really liked the some of your discussions so I thought I should try and join this cool kids club... I couldn't find a welcome page so thought I'd introduce myself here is that OK?

edit, oohh found the welcome page oops

Hopefully my questions are not too stupid and when they are you're all kind enough to humour me.

So.... Hypothetically given a space of 1m2 and 2m high and all other factors(temp humidity etc) being equal what differences would result in using a 400, 600 or a 1000 watt light of course each placed at its optimum height

Would I get any differences in density, yield or other plant form?

Such as I don't know but hermes or more females or more males, bigger leaves smaller leaves, better stone,?

In the goal of highest quality produce(yield is important but quality is what I want) economics aside what is going to be the best?

Also final thing I cannot view my profile or anyone elses this is not such a bad thing IMO, however will that change if I do the right things post stuff and fit in with everyone here?

gday and welcome

i think u need 10 posts to access the profiles etc

ok

now so u wanna grow in a 1m wide x 1m deep x 2m high area?

hid lamps are very hot,in that area a simple 400 would suffice

although u could push it and run a 600w in cool tube..

heat will limit your results

with the right set up u could easily pull 1-1.4 lb from that area

there is a great tutorial by sukonmiskunk on setting up a rec hydro pot system

take care

OK thanks for your answer but yes I have the technology to keep my temperature and all other factors the same, basically my question is about whether the extra power hitting the plants all over will result in what positives and what negatives.

ie will I get a higher yield because of more light getting through to lower branches will it be cosmetically better, will it be a better stone or worse?

It's hard to give plants too much light but there's a 'point of diminishing return'. I read that the equivalent of 50W HID per sq ft is a decent level of lighting. Call a sq m 10'^2 for a guestimate of 500Wm^2.

I think you're then OK up to about 75W'^2 (750Wm^2) before further increase is useless and eventually detrimental.

Personally, I think there's benefit running a couple of small lights vs a single larger light.
