Here is a blog well worth reading...

"LEAP is touring Australia from October 2nd to the 27th. We don't have any speakers in Australia right now, but after the tour that should change. In the meantime, LEAP supporters can look to Alex Wodak as a leading drug policy reformer who lives in Australia but is known worldwide for his efforts to end prohibition. In addition to being a medical doctor he is the Director of the Alcohol and Drug Service at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Sydney, as well as a board member of the International Harm Reduction Assocation."

read the blog for the rest of the info... it is well worth it :D

Eh..... LEAP...... guys you actually read their policies? Sure I agree with their stance on pot... but things like heroin, coke, and meth just need to be eradicated.

I think some people on here need to read their full mission statement, to legalise all illegal drugs.........

Alot of police agree that marijuana needs to be legal, but dont join LEAP due to other drugs.....................

there is a big difference between cocaine and marijuana, one leads to serious physical addiction, and is highly addictive (worse than cigarettes).... Heroin is the grim reaper I dont need to mention anything else... the word alone brings terror.

I think the point of legalising all drugs is to get them out of the hands of the BIG dealers and smugglers who make a shitload of money out of it and charge the prices that lead some users to crime to pay for their habit.

If the drugs were legalised it would be easier to control the supply, and offer help to the people who have serious problems with the harder drugs. There would be less incentive for them to commit crimes to fund their habit if the price of supply was reduced.

There would be some benefits to society overall.

That is the basis for their argument on legalisation. Also it would free up police resources to chase more serious criminals than the average drug user. If they aren't chasing someone for a small deal of any drug, they can then chase the true criminals behind the black market, along with devoting their resources to other criminal behaviour.

yeah i fully agree with you Australia needs to wise up legalize pot and keep other drugs illeagal

and where im at the cops (most of them) when they search you if they find pot they wont do nuthin but if they find something else

anyways if the government were to legalize it they would probably find that "other" drug use has been cutt down, less crimes (as possession of cannabis is the leading charge in the far north)

i mean look at the dutch'es do u ever hear about them doing shit real bad?

i personally kno a couple of people over there and they reckon everything is mellow, quiet, and u dont have the worry when your going to sleep at night that some kids are raxin ur girl's

The majority of people (as stated in surveys conducted by LEAP) have said they have no intention of trying heroin or cocaine or other hard drugs EVEN IF THEY WERE LEGALISED.

As Radic says, drug ADDICTION (not drug USE) is a health issue like alcoholism, not a criminal issue like theft, rape, murder.

Take the crime out of the drug use and treat the health issues instead. That would be a sign of a compassionate society.

Maybe you should either actually read there mission statement yourself, or go back to school and learn how to read! They never once mention even "legalizing" cannabis, what they talk about is a system of regulation instead of outright prohibition.

Anyone with a good story can rock down to the local hospital and get a shot of morphine (a powerful opiate just like heroin) if they really want. The reason we don't have all the same problems with morphine as we do with heroin is because one is locked up and regulated and the other is being freely offered to our kids on the street, making criminals rich.

What's your stance anyway? Do you think cannabis and alcohol are fine and all other drugs are just pure evil? What about LSD? Should we eradicate that too? What about the natural drugs, like mushroms or peyote? What about natural drugs that are abused? like opium, or even kratom? Maybe we should just eradicate all poppy plants, stuff the millions of people that are in sever pain who get a better quality of life from using opiates because someone might abuse them.

Fuck it, well we are at it maybe we should just go and eradicate all Acacia species since someone might extract the DMT and abuse it, how evil would that be. Addictive synthetics should be on prescription where a doctor can deside if you should be using them, but it's my right to use all other drugs.

Fuck the government, there not my mother!!!!!!

Tis very good that they're coming here. It's a very interesting site too. I often wondered what the average cop on the street thinks about drugs.

My friend - Have you ever thought about how many people grow pot to support an IV drug habit?

$50,000 a year for a habit is not unrealistic. So all those who speak about growing pot are not necessarily doing it for the same reasons You may know some online...

One raid in Queensland on a guys hydro setup in a garden shed, missed a large quantity of speed under the cot of a baby....

This guy was selling pot to school kids to support his habit.

But the cops thought the guy was a pot-head - And were bluffed by a woman who told them to be quiet around her sleeping baby...

LEAP.... worth discussion .... If only anyone cared

The war on ANYTHING never wins....
