First grown on the go

Recommended Posts

Well here we are nearly 10-12 weeks in I guess, I lost a couple of plants in the hail storm a few weeks back, all of the plants lost Branches and leaves but have recovered pretty well in the last few weeks, two were totally destroyed and I was left with 6, 3 Papaya and 3 PPP.

Praying they're all female most are about 30-35 cm high and at least 2 are starting to show signs of pre flowering, all of the stems are fattening up now so looking fairly healthy although a couple of the plants have some of the lower leaves decaying, going yellow and brown and then dying, although the tops of them are lush and green and appear to be very healthy. A long time to reach this state I would have thought, but im sticking with them.

Should I beadding anything like baby bio or plant food of some sort or just let them go with the flow. any advice of how much longer I should expect these plants to grow before they should start flowering, being my first time I haven't a clue what sort of time periods I should be looking at, looking at grow diary's and outdoor grow threads I cant really determine time periods as I reckon each plant will be different add to that, rainfall, temps, amounts of direct sunlight, the last few weeks have been pretty poor for some good sunlight and we've had a bit of rain.

Any advice would be appreciated

Cheers guys

If you want to get more out of the plants, feeding a couple of times a week would be ideal.

Maybe try a well balanced organic fert if you into more natural things.

You can make a tea out of well matured compost or worm castings if you can find some.

If the plants are outside all the time, the days are only going to get longer as we head into summer and they should continue to VEG.

heading into autumn the days will start to shorten and they will then start to bud, finishing times depend on the strain and your location/environment.

If you wanted to send them into flower early, you could give them exactly 12 hours outside, and bring them inside to TOTAL darkness for the other 12.

heaps of work though

Thanks for the advice Fibrofeend, I'm in the Sydney area.

I'll have a look into the organic side of things as I was a little concerned about adding something like Miracle Gro which the wife has a box of, Is MG just mainstream crap which shouldn't be added or is it as good as anything else, considering this is just a garden grow, no fancy hydro work going on here :pokey:

Should I be concerned with the decaying lower leaves do you think, also based on your comments am I looking at another 3-4 months for my babies to come to fruition ?

I guess the first grow will always be riddled with questions, next year I'll know what to expect !!

Many Thanks

Miracle grow is pretty average as far as ferts go, better than nothing though if not abused.

its kinda hard to say without pics in regards to leaf damage. If its just the bottom ones, i wouldn't worry about it too much, might just be hungry?

If you use the MG , start at 1/4 strength of what the box says to use, i wouldn't go more than half strength with that stuff, i wouldn't use it more than once or twice a week either.

Maybe give the plants a flush with plain water first, so there's plenty of runoff.

I have found that when i water and/or feed in pots its best to have at least 10% run off, less chance of getting a build up of dissolved salts.

Then let them go a few days before next water.

Never give a dry or thirsty plant ferts either. Just keep it simple and dont stress over them too much and you will end up with something for your efforts.

Yes if you are leaving it to mother nature you are looking at around mid march next year to start flowering, then 8 - 12 weeks depending on strain, environment ect.

good luck

Call me paranoid, i'm a little concerned with posting pics, I dont need someone checking my IP affress and paying a visit after posting evidence

In the mean time 2 weeks in and im onto the 3 rd leaf stage (as i would call it), 2 leaves, 2 leaves and now 4 leaves are sprouting, just wondering when I should transplant at present they're in pots about 3 inches across and 4 inches deep 8 x 10 cm roughly.

Cheers

Hey Peanut, if the feds or whoever wanted to they could still check your ip just from posting replies and topics on here. I know pics would be even more evidence and all but I am sure they would rather go after the big dogs out there.

Peace
