Would medical marijuana really be a good thing?

Recommended Posts

People tell me that medical marijuana would be a better replacement for many other more harmful drugs

But if this was allowed to be controlled by pharmaceutical companies and doctors, would marijuana then become another thing that gets manipulated

I wouldn't mind hearing what other people think of this, it has been running around in my head for a while

The pharma manipulation part is happening now and has been for a while with synthetic cannabinoids.

At a chemical level the extracts from natural plants will all end up the same by recipes. An example is sativex. They'll boil it all down till they get whatever combo needed to fit in the spray bottle. Or to treat whichever condition.

But if we follow the medicinal states in the US and canada, then the whole plant should be available to the patient to grow/ or have grown for them legally.

From there making, curing and storing their own bud, hash or oil should come with health directions, but no interference. Assuming the health requirement isn't getting worse..

A little education, e.g. vaporizers and cooking to ingest would be a fair go.

Money saved on unneeded medications, could then be better spent on the patient's nutrition and family lives.

Get your angle though Steve.. how's the monopoly board going to play it? Dunno..

At the moment in the US the states which allow for medical use don't tax it. At least I'm 99% they don't. I remember about a month ago California was talking about putting a tax on it to try and get out of debt. At least someone was.

I honestly wouldn't mind paying a reasonable tax on it if I could go to a dispensary and buy. The government could make a lot more money from us but instead the lobbyists from pharma companies are lining their pockets.

There doing just that now with the dangerous addictive synthetics they are always trying to stuff down our throats, so I can't see why anyone would have a problem with them doing it with a safe non-addictive herb. Also cannabis can easierly be grown dried and cured by anyone, so no one company would end up being able to get a monopoly on it anyway.

You can't fairly use the US states as a reference as to what the cost of medical cannabis would be if federally legal in Australia. Since it's only legal in the states and it's still in a grey area, which means there is still a lot more cost to growing it. If it was fully legal for medical purposes then we would be growing thousands of plants crops and you wouldnt have the risk factor and the cost of growing it would drop dramaticly meaning the price if cannabis would also drop

Marijuana Cuts Lung Cancer Tumor Growth In Half!!! ScienceDaily (Apr. 17, 2007)

The active ingredient in marijuana cuts tumor growth in common lung cancer in half and significantly reduces the ability of the cancer to spread, say researchers at Harvard University who tested the chemical in both lab and mouse studies. Here we are two years hence from that remarkable discovery and still there is no acknowledgement from the mainstream – not the press, the politicians or the medical healers. It is really not all that surprising. After all in 1974, there was another very conclusive and equally astounding result proving that marijuana cured cancer of the breast. That study was not just under-reported – it was buried, hidden and denied! Then a hero of the marijuana advocacy group uncovered it, just a decade ago. How foolish was I ten years ago?? to have thought that the magnificent benefits of marijuana would finally be acknowledged…..Is it equally foolish now, to think that possibly the tide is really turning? There is so much information available for the public to stumble upon. Everything demonstrates incredibly positive effects from marijuana for all kinds of cancer and for just about anything THAT HAS THUS FAR BEEN STUDIED. Does it mean we are in for a truthful era?? Have you heard? one other Myth of Marijuana has been flattened!!! Even though there were so many studies that displayed very helpful effects from administration of marijuana – in varying forms, for all kinds of mental expressions of disease, such as SAD, ADD, ADHD, bi-polarity, depression, etc., there was this definite MYTH that marijuana would make Schizophrenia worse. Even though so many who suffer from this devastating imbalance have for decades testified to the benefits of marijuana for moderating the symptoms, the medical establishment maintained its MYTH. Check it out: (Synthetic) THC Can Improve the Symptoms of Schizophrenia (Clinical Psychopharm: June 2009/29/3, Schwarcz, Glenn MD; Karajgi, Basawaraj MD; McCarthy, Richard MD, PhD So what can we deduce from all the evidence thus far? after we admit that we have all been duped by the powerful, profit-driven, purposeful crusade of lies? That the benefits of marijuana are long term, broad-based, indicated for all mental and physical expressions of imbalance of the body/mind?? as per the studies and the anecdotes of millions of patients. AND according to the testimony of millions from modern times and from countless ancient civilizations, for those who seek to experience a deeper reality, the benefits of marijuana both expand and enhance the essential element of human life known as consciousness?? Could it be that this ancient herb – with its ubiquitous dispersing around the world, acknowledged, appreciated, and even adored by advanced civilizations for thousands of years for its mysterious/mystical/unspoken access to realizing the backdrop of all life – actually affords a human being a glimpse of something other than simply the surface of life? Could it be that there is a primeval, basic thread of compatibility between the Sativas and the Sapiens that has been carried forth biologically from time immemorial? The Cannabinoid System in our bodies bodes such a cohesive connection. The science is there for all to see. But we had best all look quickly, just in case the truth is once again suppressed. Marijuana actually does enhance consciousness. It expands awareness. It oxygenates our whole beings. It is a compound at once embraced within the regulatory cannabinoid moderators of the human body to restore balance.

Be forewarned: the medical and pharmaceutical giants are taking the graceful, ancient, perfectly balanced, natural plant and planning on a new pill/patch/potion in a variety of delivery systems so that we pay rather than plant! And it will be called a NEW DISCOVERY.

MARIJUANA MONEY

June 1st, 2009

Finally, as we face the problems of devastating unemployment, consumerism gone wild, and a nation floundering in its own excess – marijuana is being considered as a savior - for the money of it. Why am I not surprised? After all for the past 30-plus years, the United States Government has been responsible for the tragedy of imprisoning millions of people for marijuana crimes – resulting in dangerously unsanitary and overcrowded prisons/ ruined lives/shamed and broken families/ and hundreds of thousands of suffering patients denied relief from this health-giving plant, simply for the money of it. It is true, that the tide of public opinion is turning toward sanity because the truth of marijuana’s health-giving benefits has been exposed. The genie really can’t be put back. But how absolutely shameful and yet sadly, how terribly predictable - that the impetus toward legalizing marijuana comes not from appreciation of its physical, psychological and even spiritual benefits for the world, but instead because of the money it can generate in taxes. No doubt, legalization of marijuana cannot happen overnight, but now the door has been opened, the polls have said yes, the governor of

California has dared speak the unspeakable. “Legalize marijuana and tax it.” Ironically - the reason that marijuana was banned in the first place and maligned as an evil weed was only because of the money that could be made from its prohibition. Times have changed. Now it looks like there is more money in taxing it. So what else could you expect from this most materialistic culture of ours, but that money would be at the bottom of it all. The purposeful lies that marijuana is a stepping stone to hard drugs, an agent of physical and psychological damage, or the wrong message to the children, all seem to be forgotten.

For the federal government to continue to maintain - that marijuana has “no medical value in light of thousands of studies that prove just the opposite, and especially as state after state ratifies its use for medicine – just cannot stand anymore. We are entering the time where the government rewrites history – again. All the lies will be rewritten. All the imprisonment will be forgotten. Or so it appears. We are about to witness the doublethink of those who run everything - simply – for the money of it.

gotta love every utterance a dat

i was sure that i watch adoco on the medical dispenseries in the US and the guy said something about paying taxes or feesor some sort too the government. This doco is still being repeated on foxtel. I forget the name but it had its good points here and there :photo:

also i believe it would be good. As Jabez said supply and demand. Even if the government IS taxing it look at the price of cigarettes. a pouch of rollies (30grams) costs like 16 $ i couldn't imagine MJ being that cheap but it would definately go down.
