Pot back on the box - Huff and Puff over Lamb ad

Recommended Posts

Cannabis controversy has hit the showbiz world for the second time in two weeks with the scheduled release tomorrow of a controversial advertisement by Meat and Livestock Australia.

The ad for lamb features young people at a Woodstock style music festival passing around a lamb wrap which strongly resembles a gigantic joint while other sit looking dopey eyed in clouds of smoke which turns out to be from a lamb BBQ.

Characters in the ad wear clothing with slogans like 'Make peace - eat lamb' and 'Give chops a chance'.

David Thomasen from the MLA has told News Limited he believes most consumers would accept the ad as tongue in cheek.

Thomasen says his organisation is forced into edgy advertising due to their small marketing budget.

The MLA has a history of controversial ads - a recent one featured Sam Kekovich and called on vegetarians to be deported.

The ad comes only a week after controversy over the classification of a new movie called Stone Bros which features characters who smoke cannabis and drive.

The film's creator Richard Frankland says the MA15+ rating is unnecesarily harsh and is an example of indigenous stereotyping.

The comedy centres on two young aboriginal men who go on spiritual a road trip from Perth to Kalgoorlie.

Frankland, who says the film has a strong anti-drug message, has worked in Aboriginal childcare, counselling and with the deaths in custody royal commission.

The classification board says the film contains numerous visuals of explicit marijuana smoking and the hallucinatory effects of consuming the illicit drug.

Can see why the ad is controversial, if your not paying attention it would definitely seem like its actually an ad for bud... which I would love if those existed :peace: Try our new strain! ^_^

But as for the movie it should not be hit hard for drug use, I would agree that it is indigenous stereotyping since there are so many other movies and even tv series with drug use in them that dont get ridiculous ratings put on them. I really want to watch the movie stone bros as well, is it actually released yet?
