The Police have contacted me about the RALLY ! HELP!

Recommended Posts

I got an email from the NSW police about the rally in Sydney on the 7th September.

it says :

Hello,

my name is ********** (name removed) from City Central Traffic Services. I received information from the Powerhouse Museum that your organisation will be having a demonstration on 07/09/09.

I have not received any notification from your organisation, I ask that you please submit a schedule 1 form (attached) with any information that you may be able to supply.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me.

Many thanks,

City Central Police

Traffic Services

L4/192 Day Street, SYDNEY 2000

I am attaching the PDF they sent me to this post so you can read it.

NOW ... HOW DO I FILL IT OUT ???

I presume I have to give my name and address ??? I'd rather not actually .... as I am not the organiser... or the head of an organisation.

I am not attending the Rally, coz I can't afford to get to Sydney for it. I am also not a resident of NSW. We don't have an organisation to name in the paperwork.

I am wondering if the HEMP embassy at nimbin should/would/could perhaps be filling out the paperwork as they are attending as far as I know and they are an established organisation who could provide the details that are needed with less risk of being raided than I have, as I am sure they have a postal address etc etc.

What do you think we need to do ?????

Dont reply! Sneaky little rats are just trying to scam you into giving them as much information as possible. They have already read every word relating to this subject on this forum, they no just as much about it as we do already.

Like you said we have no leader or even a org, so all that's happening is a few like minded people are having a meet at the power house museum why do we need to inform them of that, it's not china.

BTW, how did they get your email address?

ignore it. As you suggest 'a group of people' may coincidentally be in the area at the time.

Guy that 'signed' it's 1st name isn't Stuart (or Stewart) is it? Some friends of mine are involved in stuff that causes interruption to traffic in Sydney occassionally and have a good relationship with Stuart, however he spells his name, despite the uniform is a really nice bloke.

Anyone organising such a rally should contact police at the earliest opportunity to advise of impact to the area. This can be done anonymously. You do it so that police don't get pissed off. By alerting them to it they are NOT going to string up a force to stop you from doing it, and if they did there are several journos I know who would like to hear the story, and splash it around international news.

However, though you are promoting the event and may even be involved there is no reason for any such 'personal information' to be supplied.

If indeed some organisation was, for want of a better word, organising this thing it would be to the benefit of that organisation to supply as much information as possible to the relevent authorities. (Which basically means calling the traffic cops in the area/city and saying 'Guys, we don't want to be a problem we just have something to say. We think attendance will be several hundred/thousand/million and expect it to be over without interrupting all those workers going home from work during peak hour on your busy roads. The cops will know who needs to be informed in the specific area, and will inform them on the basis of the anonymous call, should they think it's real.)

 Not replying at all is a sure way to put the police offside from the start IMO. Probably not a smart move. The fact is we have no leader or even a org, so all that's happening is a few like minded people are having a meet at the power house museum why do we need to inform them of that, like jabez said, it's not china. Send back a blank form with an attached note explaining that you think they may have misinterpreted what is actually happening here as that form doesn't appear to apply to this situation at all. If I recall correctly? The event was actually organized by the NCPIC, they are the only reason 'like minded people are turning up' on the day. Is it possible the form should be sent to them instead :bongon:

Thanks for the clear advice Baron

I have forwarded a copy of the email to the Hemp Embassy at Nimbin since as far as I know they are the only official organisation that are planning to attend, and I am asking them what they think we should do.

If they choose not to complete the paperwork I will most likely reply with with enough detail to cover their major concerns regarding traffic implications though I have no idea how many people will attend, and state that their is no organisation overseeing this event.

The person who contacted me was not a Stuart. But they are from the traffic section so I assume their main concern is disruption to the public roadways etc.

:bongon: I'd imagine their only concern is that traffic isn't disrupted, which is fair enough IMO. I'd rather see them doing it than not. One thing to keep in mind is this is a group of people that as an organization (once things get moving along) will probly have to deal with these same police again so now is the best time to show we want to co operate with them as best we can to help them do their job keeping the traffic moving. Like I said to not reply at all would be silly IMO but the truth is we cant give them the information they want. We don't have it either. Maby just tell them that and ask is there any way we can help though?

Yeah, I think once they realize there's no set organization (other than those previously mentioned) they may not push you for so much information.

They just want to make sure it won't get out of hand... and by at least attempting to comply with their requests just reiterates that it's a rally not a riot.. dig? :bongon:

of course, if they get narky about it there is nothing stopping us from just being in a public place.

well if a group is started

then we need to appoint a decated police leasion person to inform the cops

they will dig it

they will contact this person and relate what we can do without assest

is just standard Non Voilent Direct Action proceedure

we tell what we planed

like

this is a non arrestable peacefull action

and how many people we expect

they will send the cops to deal with it

no sweat

so

who is up for the job????????
