Problem!

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys,

Because of high temperatures here I have been forced to run my lights as much as I can during the night to keep the temperature down, last night i found a BIG problem.... due to it being a rental property and I cant vent though the roof, I actually vent my fan out the window, which is covered by a thin cotton curtain to allow air to penetrate the curtain, the window and curtain in then covered in builders plastic with only a small round hole in the builders plastic to allow the air to be vented through the curtain and out the window.

...unfortunately at night the vent shows up as a glowing yellow hole through the curtain....looks pretty suspicous, fortunately I dont have any neighbours close by but it is still making me paranoid. I have bent the acoustic ducting to allow less light to penetrate out but it still looks really weird

Can anyone offer any advice?????

You can get ducting that is black on the inside to help lessen light reflection. My mate also rents, he put a hole in the roof at the top of an inbuilt wardrobe. Will plaster n paint when he leaves. No big deal! More ducting corners will help cut light better, yeah Id get that fixed up immediatley. Just cause you dont have neighbours dont mean shit! If its sus your asking for a bust!

There are a myriad of means to solve your problem the simplest of which is to make a light box

I just spent 10 minutes drawing the damn thing to discover it didn't work. I'll post one up in a minute.

Duct goes in one side air goes out the other, you could make it in a few minutes with a couple of cardboard boxes and some duct tape.

I'd probably be more worried about the means of blocking out the window.

Like it has been mentioned earlier you could cut a hole in the warddrobe roof (if there is one) and repair it later. You might be low on dollats but the money you are about to save in dope consumption will probably justify the repair cost.

Shoot ask your rental manager/owner if you can install a bathroom fan in your wardrobe because it has a continual musty smell about it and it's stinking out your clothes. I would bet the GDP of Timor the response will be, so long as you pay for it go for it.

If it makes you feel better I couldn't draw the floor plan of the rental properties I've owned, and if you think the property manager could differentiate your place between the other truck load of rentals they manage I have news for you.

Just make it look neat and tidy and no-one will get upset.
