Strain selection can have a big impact on odor.

That hellar fan will work very well if you can afford to purchase it, I was thinking of the cheaper one again, that one will move plenty of air and has the added benefit of being able to duct if required.

Nilodor, available from Coles/Woolies in a little green bottle, will cover up most smells. Don't over do it though.

It won't cover a 2kw grow op but the little cab grow you got going will be no problem at all.

You will need to cut a hole, using the template provided, in the box on top of you cabinet to allow the fan to pull the air out.

This won't be that hard as the cupboard doesn't look particularly solid; a jigsaw will make life much easier if you can borrow one from someone.

You'll also need a whole for the exhaust side of the fan.

That thing should keep temps under control. Don't bother installing the white cover plate.

I was looking at some cheaper heller fans. There was a ceiling fan that was around $20-$30 but it needed to be installed by an electrician. This one you just plug in which is awesome :bongon:

I've sorted out the seeds. This awesome guy is sending me 7 different strains (which I do think is a bit overkill but :D). 4 in particular stand out.

White widow

Pineapple Cinderella 99

Blueberry

Trainwreck x (og kush abusive x sour diesel ibl)

Anyone have any comments about these? I am guessing they will be really smelly (especially the trainwreck one).

Good to know nilodo will be enough for the odour ;). I was thinking about getting that special type of kitty litter and putting that in a stocking then having that at the end of the exhaust. but if sprays can cover 2/3 plants then i wont bother.

I'm going to install the intake part of the fan vertically in the main grow area with the exhaust going into the other compartment, then I think I might duct that out from the top of there. That way there isn't anything weird on the top of the wardrobe or the side.

But i like the white cover plate! I might just buy a jigsaw. I think I saw them for like $20-$25. I don't know anyone who has one.

when I was at bunnings I was looking at the potting mix and stuff. They have premium potting mix that says can feed plants for up to 4 months... Does that mean I wouldn't have to use fertiliser?

I've never really gardened anything before so help me out here. What do I need to buy in terms of soil etc.?

The white plate might look nice and it would in a bathroom but has no practical value in you cabinet and should be avoided; unless you want some crispy looking plants, then go for it.

You will need as much airflow as possible in there.

If you are going to buy a jig saw contain the fan and ballast in the box above your cupboard and put another hole in the box for ducting.

Personally I wouldn't use a brunnings or similar brand potting mix, I would go for coco coir and add nutrients to it, that way you have control over the nutrient quantity.

I would be a little wary of your seed source.

hmm coco ey? That could get a bit complicated for a first grow couldn't it? Well I need as much information as I can on the subject :peace:. But a premium potting mix that says it can feed plants and flowers for 4 months... Would that be a good choice for a first grow? I'm sure I'll start perfecting as time goes on. This way I won't have to really worry about nutrients.

Seeds arrived ;). So many of them, and they are so tiny!

Also, I've fully painted the main area. And i've put an undercoat on the 2nd compartment. Hopefully will finish that off today.

I want to keep a mother plant in the 2nd compartment somewhere. But how big and tall do mother plants have to be? the shelves are 40cm high, 38.5cm in length and 48cm in depth. I'm hoping to keep a mother alive with a 64w CFL. Will one of these small shelves be enough for that or will I need to cut one of them to turn it into one taller shelf?

I need everyone's recommendations for online hydroponic shops. I'm in qld but ordering in other states is probably fine. Can anyone recommend me certain 400w hps kits?

also thanks everyone for putting up with my annoyingly stupid questions :toke:. I need as much input as possible ;)

Okay guys! much progress has been made.

I have 2x 290mm pots with a 300mm catcher thingy on the bottom.

I have roughly 5L perlite to 9L yates premium potting mix in each pot.

The fan is all installed and I have my 400w HPS lucagrow light up.

I also bought a small 15cm fan for circulation inside, it doesn't turn though.

What does everyone think? time to start planting?

all the paper at the back is covering up the big intake vent, air still comes through the bottom of it though. It's just to block some light . I can confirm that no light comes into the wardrobe when shut. And not much light leaks out, except for at the door and its more of a glow if anything.

comments comments comments please!

 I do have a thermometer.

I tried it before without the circulating fan and it got 15 degrees + of room temp.. (room temp 25c, so it was 40c!!)

I've got it on now to test it with the fan and pots in there. im hoping that fan helps a lot. Already as it is I'm going to have to run the lights at night for temperature. it should be alright.

Heh, just notoced your drobe was about the same dimensions as mine. Doing a soil/perl mix too for my first time.

Though I have a 600W hps and I've been told it's a tad too powerful for that space so I'm looking at doing a bit of a ?retro?, making some alterations for next time.

Everything looks pretty sweet on your end though, not that I'd know, ha, it looks neat and tidy?
