How heavy are hps lights?

Recommended Posts

I'm thinking of purchasing a 400w hps light and reflector and ballast kit.

I might get a 600w, im unsure. Probably a 400w.

How heavy is all this? I know I would be able to put the ballast on the ground but the light (and standard reflector) would be hung from the coat hanger bar in my wardrobe.

So any idea how heavy it would be? I have no idea and I don't want it collapsing, it isn't the strongest built wardrobe ever.

thanks lol :applause:

The globe and mogul (socket) weigh stuff all (<1kg), the shade could weigh anywhere from 500g up to a few kg depending on size and material (the small alloy ones are very light and fit in wardrobes).

All the weight is in the ballast, which is why remote ballasts are the most popular, dont buy a lowbay (or highbay for that matter) whatever you do.

ah okay cool. I'll be just getting the usual stuff from growlush with the regular box seperate ballast thingy. low bay/ high bay is when the ballast is above the light isnt it?

So if I can get my cupboard to support 3kg I should probably be fine right? I think the reflector will be a lightweight one for a cupboard. Just a standard one in the growlush kits (so something like this http://www.aussieponics.com/index.php?act=...p;productId=57)

Whilst im on the topic. Would I have a hard time hanging it from the bar? I don't even know what the hooks look like on the socket/light thingy.
