Growing Outdoors in the Tropics?

Recommended Posts

Hey Guys,

I have recently moved to a country with a tropical climate and i am considering starting to grow outdoors.

Here the temperature is fairly consistent throughout the year at 25-35 degrees Celsius and quite Humid.

Does anyone here have experience with growing in the tropics? Which strains grow well in tropical climates?

I've never grown before so any advice at all would be appreciated, if there's anything i'd have to look out for please let me know.

Thanks in advance ;)

I am no expert as I have never grown in the tropics but I believe you can pretty much grow any strain in the tropics. Having said that the humidity could cause a bit of a mold problem in some of the denser strains. If you have particularly wet and humid weather, it may be wise to grow a strain that is known for mold resistance. If I moved up the tropics and could grow outdoors, I'd probably get my hands on some nice Sativa's. The growing season is much longer in the tropics and you can also pull off multiple grows throughout the year. Something to keep in mind. ;)

do a search for "riverrat" he has some really good idears about growing in the tropics

biggest problem is humidity espesicilty dureing the wet season

100% humidity is very hard to drop to a reasonable level

good ventalation is a must and aircondition is recomended

thats if you want to flower inside

i recomend riverrats method

veg your plants inside under lights and than put them outside to flower

only my first year of doing it this way but verry happy

am on my 3rd lot for the year and could fit one more in befor the rain starts

hope this is of some help

stinky ;)

Cheers Stinky and Bloodshot eyes, thanks a lot for the info. I'll look up Riverrat now.

I'm going to look for a place that can catch a nice breeze, shouldn't be too hard to find.

For a good yield, how much minimum space do you typically need for cultivation?

thanks again ;)

my veg room is about 1.3m square and i fit 16 * 250mm pots into this spase

and i veg till the plants fill the spase

this usuly takes about 6 weeks(they are in potting mix) clones take less time

than i repot to 25/30lt grow bags and toss them outside

8 to 10 weeks later you are triming sticky buds

this method will produse about 1.5 pound to 2 pound

you could get better results if you use coco as a growing medium

and strain will effect you yeild also

Hi Marijuana Muffin.Another thing to consider is your latitude and day/night length. Some strains are RPD(relative photo determinate) and some APD(absolute photo determinate). In other words some strains need an absolute 12 hours dark to flower, while others flower with little day length variation(equator). Then you have some strains that will flower automatically after a given period(ruderalis and crosses)It isn`t always easy to be able to force flowering in the outdoors,so strains can be a consideration.

Of course there are many other considerations too.Such as soil conditions at the site you willl be planting.Pests such as insects, rabbits deer etc. Also some place where others won`t stumble upon your grow and rip you off.

As they said above, just try and keep it simple.

Peace
