why mixed flow over inline fan?

Recommended Posts

i'm looking at fans here and noticing that you can get a 250mm inline fan which goes 300l/s and costs $97.

or i could go a mixed flow 150mm fan which goes 155l/s and pay $170.

it's to be used with a carbon filter attached - why would i not get the larger fan? is it because under the slightest load it's performance greatly decreases or?? i can't see any reason besides that of why i'd get the mixed flow?

can anyone help?

Inline fans are rarely used in conjunction with carbon filters and they don't have enough umph (technical term of course) to pull air through without putting additional stress on the fans motor. Centrifugal fans are designed to overcome this and other issues but they're generally bloody noisy and a mixed flow fan is kinda like the best of both worlds. It's got the umph to pull sufficient air through a carbon filter without stressing the motor and they're generally quieter than centrifugal fans.

Hi bullseye,

Mixflow fan refers to thew latest application of on aerodynamic air flow principals.

Mixed flow fans are based on aerodynamic air flow principals done by NASSA. I have invested in a 200mm MixFlow fan (original) after hours and days of research into fans that would provide the stealthiest (quietest) air flow.

Most noise is either from bearing based architecture and/or air movement friction.

It runs as quiet as my cooling fan lol

I recommend MixFlow. I think I paid $152 which was a good deal...............since my purchase several months ago and hooking it up without any bends (elbows) in my design to minimize air friction using a 1000x200 c/f I have been impressed. I think i am pretty hard to impress. lol

;)

Nitty.
