odour control

Ex.

Recommended Posts

its a 200mm bathroom exhaust from bunnings, just a cheap'o, good for moving air, but might struggle to push the air through a carbon filter, not sure though.

the smell is well contained, being in a fridge, so if i can funnel the air through something that will kill the odour will be easy enough to remove i think.

what about some charcoal cubes in a stocking at the end of some tubing? all the air would be pushed past them.

edit:

not sure on the rules about linking to other forums but i found a good thread here:

Their good for moving air on their own, but throw a CF on, and it will probably burn out the fan, as they aren't designed for that sort of resistance.

If you have the dosh, you can't go past a good centrifugal fan and CF, no better way to control odour.

I saw a thread on here somewhere about making a filter out of odour absorbant cat litter, not sure how effective it is though.

Im not sure the air just passing by the charcoal will do much, in a CF filter it is filter through the carbon.

Spose you could burn a crapload of incense or scented oil, but will only mask the smell, not get rid of it.

Guess it depends how important odour control is to you, if its a security problem, invest in the right gear, if its just unpleasant/ or you don't have to worry about anyone else smelling it, just put up with it till harvest.

So I put a 2 step plan in place, odour masking and odour elimination.

Okay, ended up coming up with my own little filter for about $10. Works a treat, the smell is almost gone. Basically just bought a pack of carbon at the pet shop, got a decent kitchen cloth, my girlfriend sewed it up like a pouch, filled it up with carbon and sewed the top closed and my exhaust blows out through that. I wouldn't say its perfect, definitely not as good as a carbon filter, but the smell is 95% gone, which is perfect.

I also bought some lavender and rosemary for $8 each from bunnings and put them at my back door so they should overpower what little smell there is, if any.

Cheers for the suggestions, will do a proper write up on the little carbon pouch if anyone else is interested.
