I will only connect another 20ltr bucket to the float valve. as in one or two weeks, it shouldn't need to be topped up by more than 20ltrs..

you sure about that??? especially not in sunny QLD mate, if you went away for 2 weeks, whilst your plants are in full flowering you will come back to bone dry buckets and sad brown roots. Dont risk it mate. 60ltr tubs are only like $10 at bigW.

luke skywalker, you'd need sum crazy headroom mate, to get the buckets high enough to have them drain to the bathroom. I thought of this when I first started using bubblers, planned it all out and then thought, fuck it, why not just fucking pump it out, you dont need to totally drain it, just as far as the pump'll go.

 

No, just about enough to get a small container underneath to drain the water into, but as to draining to the bathroom.... Why? How far away is it? But if you have to, you have to. As to why not pump it, well, like I said. K.I.S.S. But if you have a valid reason like back difficulties, (I know how that can be.) then go for it. Take whiteclusters advice about the pump, 1000 lph should be enough for your purposes.

 

As well as that your totally off track on what we're talking about.

I don't see how offering an alternative method of filling and draining the buckets is off topic. Thats the crux of what he wants, and I was just enquiring as to why even bother using a pump. Obviously if you have a large enough setup, it will be very useful and time saving. But for less than 5, I'd have to say use a float valve and drain tubes instead of a pump. IMHO.

 

I just wanted to know what he was talking about, and all I get is I'll just be quiet then. ::

 

p.s. Just saw that last post there whitecluster, on this I also concur. The amount of water plants can transpire is sometimes nothing short of incredible. Get a 60L crate.

Yep, I digress... I read that a gum tree can evapotranspire about 1500ltrs a day..
