new to indor growing but very keen

Recommended Posts

hey guys, im new to this forum and have a few questions about starting up an indoor grow.

ok so ive got a setup in mind for a sea of green and plan to get a perpetual harvest crackin aswell. i have pulled several outdoor crops and enjoyed every moment of it. so im thinkin its time to grow some sweet indoor goodness. i saw a reall great setup on here that im going to try and adapt for the room i have in mind. im pretty sure ill have ventilation, electricity issues such as ballasts and safe wiring, humidity, nutrients and room temperature covered but am curious about the lighting situation.

ok so the setup involves four trays of some sort, one for each 2 weeks of flowering (clones will recieve very little vegging) on an 8 week cycle. i plan on having 10 to 15 plants per tray and am aiming for about 1 to 2 ounces per plant more if possible. my question is how many lights and how many watts per light would i need to support healthy plants throughout theyre life and produce some killer buds?? any and all information and tips would be greatly appreciated and once it all gets going id really like to get a grow diary happening to share my experience with you all. thanks in advance and happy smoking to all.

lighting is about PAR (useful) lumens density, you need to decide on your area and desired PAR lumens/m^2, then calculate the lighting required. Do a search on 'grow room light calculator' because I'm actually surprised to find it not pinned in this forum, and don't have the link handy either. You will more likely get watts/m^2 (based on MH/HPS averages) but that's a starting point, and a good one if you intend using those lights.

Draw yourself a 'layout' of the room in full swing, include plants that are ready to harvest and those 'other trays' that are coming up. How big an area do you think this will require?

Though your 'approximations' are of some value I need to point out that if you take the upper and lower limits from all factors you are talking about 4 cycles totalling somewhere between 40-60 plants from which you want to get between 10 and 30 oz/fortnight. Ambitious for a 1st attempt, and much too many variables for me to care to comment.

perpetual harvest is fine, my 1st indoor for a few years is aimed at perpetual also.

I'm not aiming for 10-30 oz a fortnight though, even though my numbers are gonna approach yours (I currently have 3 cycles, 16 plants [of which I expect to cull a couple], in veg, in a cupboard). Mine is designed as a 'micro-grow' however, eventually 2 small cupboards, purposely small plants, and if I get a couple of oz/(3wk)cycle it will exceed expectation.

Hi willis2031, :peace:

perpetual grows are a lot of work - so good luck, your skills will need to be sharp - especially your cloning

but the rewards can be nice... :yahoo:

What lights you use will depend on the area you need to cover

a 1m x 1m area will need a 400w

a 1.2m x 1.2m area 600w

and a 1.5m x 1.5m area a 1000w

so measure your trays and go shopping

Have fun,

Jimbo :toke:
