Oh and WTF is perlite doing with hydroton, they are not suited to each other

See, it's ignorant statements like this which make us laugh at you WP... My last grow used a perlite/hydrotron/growool floc mix, are you telling me that perlite and expanded clay aren't suited to each other now? :P :P

I currently have switched to using Silver Shield because it contains Silver.

but this takes like 25 mls per 10 litres of water, so its not very economical in comparison to something better like extreame oxygen.

Colloidal silver is not proven to be beneficial yet, and I'd be hesitant to add anything of that nature to a crop I planned on smoking. Still, it's your buds.... Just don't get something just because it says it's good for ya on the label. :P

Yes, you are an ignorant expletive. You obviously haven't got the faintest clue what you're talking about, WP, where the heck are you getting this crap information from, and why spew it out when it's obvious that it's a moronic and blatantly stupid statement?

*sigh* I just don't get you man...

Weekprik, adding perlite to expanded clay would provide your fine roots with more surface area so you are definately ignorant. I dont like perlite because it breaks down to sludge easilly but for a drain to waste it wouldnt be so bad - its certainly let you use 1/2 as much water as expanded clay alone.

We cant create a perfect mix but we can create a perfect mix for different scenarios and plenty of people like using perlite + expanded clay - it was my first indoor medium. :P

Also, call it expanded clay not Hydroton [defamation can be expensive so lets not start a war on expanded clay by calling it Hydroton]. :P

In a nursery I worked at we used to use pool chlorine to soak and clean the pots with...tbh I can't remember the strength, but with a good rinse afterwards it seemed ok...Never had a problem using it at all and grew literally 1000's of plants in old pots using it to clean.

But, I think the thing here is, if the previous plants had a fungus problem or some other disease then I wouldn't use the pots again. If they are your pots and you have grown plants in them previously with no pests or diseases then a good scrub and disinfect should be ok.

...and in all the research I have done I have never heard anyone say not to mix perlite and expanded clay.

from-

The Marijuana Grower's Guide

by Mel Frank and Ed Rosentha...chapter 9.5 Soiless Mixtures

A good general formula is two parts vermiculite to one part perlite

If anyone is after the book in Text form it is available free on the internet .

All commercial hydro H202 mixes I bought have colloidal silver shit in them, if they dont then your better off with the 1ltr 25% H202 from chemists.

But I've smoked the shit tons of times, never thought about it being poisonous because its in there in such ridiculously small amounts. I couldnt be bothered grabbing the bottle, but the silver is in there like 1% of the mix and then you only add 1ml or so every 10ltrs in bubblers.

ok the perlite and vermicelite is ok together, what I was referring too was the mixing of clayballs and Perlite together,

I didnt read this anywhere either, but when I did it once the perlite broke down 1/2 through flowering and blocked my pumps and lines,

now I know what ya thinking Perlite doesnt breakdown!, but this shit did block my pumps and lines, and I flushed the perlite before I used it to make sure it didnt contain dust and shit and also so I didnt breathe the dust from it????

I dont know? im used to soil. ;(

Oh and truth on the silver shit Luke is I dont care about health benefits and shit, Apparently H202 only lasts 1/2 hour in your nutes unless its eating something,

All the silver does is gives it food until it find food, it kinda just keeps the H202 active in between doses,

However the down side to using it the price, and my one uses 25 mls every 2 days.

Ive just pulled my first crop not using H202 and I had brown roots, not bad but still kinda brownish, (no smell),

What brand do you use mate? Mine doesn't have any in it and I get it at my local hydro shop?

at the moment i got oxyclear, its :

hydrogen peroxide 6% Complex Colloidal silver <0.011%

I never even thought about it being poisonous lol and the main time I use it is when I underestimate plant size and the root systems are too tight, through the flush and all. I know the h202 is ok cos my old mate used to use the 3% as a mouth wash, but never thought about the silver.

anyhoo, doseage rate is 1.6mls to 2.5mls, but I never use over 1ml per 10 in bubblers, cos it really does effect plants badly, its great in passive hydro, I wouldn't grow passive hydro without it, but if you want real plant growth use actual oxygen from pumps and airstones not from h202.

clayballs and perlite are a good medium, clay balls and plastic, clayballs and woodchips, clayballs and dog hair, whatever floats your boat, if it grows good dope its a good medium. I dunno about clay balls and dog hair would probably give you too much nitrogen at the end of flowering though. Any medium is fine, as long as it aint hygropor.

In a flood and drain tray with a longer growing plant than cannabis you'll end up with clay balls at the bottom and perlite at the top as the perlite will float through the clay balls all the time.

Hey I emptied out most of my grow except for 2 widows that had and extra 2 weeks to go, so I pulled the root matt out of all my clay balls and chucked the balls in 2 big garbage bags. I left em outside for a few days

and then when I went to clean em a lot of the plant matter rolled off and stayed in the bags when I poured out the clay balls. I think if you rolled the bags around while they were still wet inside the stuff would stick to the plastic too. It seemed a lot easeier to clean em after this, a lot less debris in the bath than usual. Just a thought.
