MH Ballast Question

Recommended Posts

Hey all, just curious, I was down my local pawnbrokers and they had a 400w MH ballast bulb and reflector goin for $70 all up, now Im just curious, can you get HPS conversion bulbs that work on MH ballasts like you can get MH bulbs that work on HPS ballast, and also, how terrible is MH for flowering? Cheers

Sir you are a gentleman and a scholar, now Ive found a MH bulb that has both spectrums, ill post a pic of the spectrum range on a bulb i found and if anyone could tell me if the yellow-orange-spectrum of this bulb would be sufficient in growing 2 plants.

Hi Goobs,

Goobs ...Ive found a MH bulb that has both spectrums, ill post a pic of the spectrum range on a bulb i found and if anyone could tell me if the yellow-orange-spectrum of this bulb would be sufficient in growing 2 plants.

No one has any ideas? or any experience with dual spectrum MH bulbs? i need to know asap as the little pawnbroker mans waiting for me to tell him if i want it or not

I think your talking about the best mixed spectrum from a HD bulb for flowering............. The higher k rating the more red which would be better If you want a bulb for that purpose (flowering). In which case you perhaps could use a "conversion HD/HPS" using in in HPS mode when flowering. It's supposedly what some 'modern' ballasts are designed to do. :)

I guess you just have to know what one's do and what ones don't :peace:

But if your talking about the best mix of HD to HSP (multipul lights) it is considered generally (if my memory recalls) to have a 2:1 ratrio of HSP to HD. This was in the time before conversion bulbs.

I'm using a HD for vegng atm It's a Sylvania m59 (3-4,000k) blue White. It is more in the blue (better for veging - streatch, health ect) .

Not tired the conversion bulbs myself yet - need to update ballast first - I'm going for an 400 E-Ballast.

Most people would buy a new bulb if you getting secondhand gear. :)

:)

Nitty.

From my experience MH bulbs rule.

I always veg with an expensive MH bulb (dont know the spectrums) and then when turn to 12/12 turn on the HPS light to supplement, usually in the last 6-7 weeks leaving on the MH so I have 400W of each. Holy shit, last go at it (and I am a lazy grower, no PH, no measurements, just soil under lights) I got nearly 15.5 ounces and I think you need both. Perfect world you need both MH & HPS.
