What light for mothers

Recommended Posts

Im looking for lights to keep 3 bonsai mothers alive In my small mother room around 2ft deep maybe a bit more about 18inches high and close to 9 inches wide all these figures can be change as I have not started constructing my cab... yet!

The lighta should be good for veg (not interested in flowering) but I dont want too much growth that I have to keep pruning the mothers all the time. I was thinking maybe fluros tubes? would I be able to get a sparky to wire them all up to 1 plug

1 more question is it possible to run everything in the cab lights, fans, pumps and ballast all off the same powerpoint obviously it will be hooked up to a 5 hole powerboard but is there such a thing as overloading or something along those lines?

thanks

I concur with the 14000k 130w Spectrum lamp recommendation, great for mum rooms. And yes, you can certainly take cuts under these just keep in mind that you'll want it a bit further away from the top of the dome than you would an 18-36w fluoro hood, to offset the increased light levels.

My mum and cutting room is run from one of these and I highly recommend them.

it's a CFL buddy (compact fluoro), and it will plug into a light socket. they are normally those 'bayonnet' style fittings.

i don't know the dimensions - u can find out off a google search tho. or visit discount hydro on ebay and look at their online store. it's in there somewhere

They're about the same length as a 1k hps lamp, but a bit wider. They just use the standard mogul e39 or e40 socket that you use with any other HID lamp, but instead of plugging the cord from the lightholder into a ballast, you just plug it into the wall (after using an adaptor to change the round earth on the lightholder to the flat earth of a standard plug socket). :freak: Simple. :bongon:

So you just need a standard simple reflector for a hid lamp or even just a lamp holder itself, and then the lamp and adaptor for the plug. All up should be between 140 to 180 depending on shade selection. You should be able to illuminate an 80x50x80h room with one quite nicely. And that can keep anything up to 8 mums in say 4L pots or more. Think of it as being around 1/4 of the output of a 400w hps for around 1/4 of the power usage. And better spectrum too.

Thanks Luke...............I thought the 130cfl would be ok for cuttings a long as the light was a bit further away.

Cheers.
