Hello all Os'ers

I'm looking to start a grow in my cupboard, it is quite small in width, but I believe it will be plenty for the one plant I want to grow, the dimensions are 47cm Width 178cm Height 42 Depth (front to back) i was wondering in a small space like this and only growing one plant, would a 250w HPS suffice? or would the 400w still be the way to go, I have no issue with buying a 400w, it's just if I dont need it I dont want to put up more money than i need to spend.

cheers in advance

P.S What is better, white paint or panda film, mylar is out of my price range ;)

Alright ;), i take your collective silence as a derp you fool go look at the calculator which i just found ;), im pretty new to the site to xD, alright so i put my dimensions in and what not and now i just need clarification cause im quite, astounded i suppose, cause i was sitting here thinking i would need to get a 400watter, but the calculator tells me that the optimum wattage for my area is 84 watts with a maximum of 126 0.o 84 watts!! can this be correct? it tells me that my area is 2.1 squarefeet, which i could of told you, but didnt for some reason , its 178cm tall 47 cm wide and 45 deep (front to back) as i already mentioned, so its quite a tall and i suppose thin cupboard so im just wondering. If any of this is seems like a fault in my logic please tell me

Alright that's cool just get a couple of 24w fluros ay? or just a big nasty 48w-65w fluro? with flowering I keep reading all up and down these forums that while fluros are great for veg growth, they produce shitty buds, im looking to grow buds as dense as rock ;) hehe, so should i go a 250w hps for flower still? my only concern there is as far as i know 250w is the smallest hps light you can get, will it burn my plant, will it cause my cupboard to burst into flame, the calc said a max of 126w for my area, so would wanting to use a 250hps do more harm than good? Hey goobs

IMO a 250 will still build up a fair bit of heat in a space that small.

As long as the light is not too close to the plant it shouldn't burn.

But unless you have some good ventilation the heat will be a prob.

I have a 250 with a bat wing reflector that would only JUST squeeze in that space width wise.

As said above you really need some more space...Also you can get 130W fluros in VEG and FLOWER spectrum

have a look at Discount Hydro on Ebay

Alrighty I've looked into the more space issue and decided to use a different cupboard, this ones dimensions are 850mm wide 500mm deep(front to back) and 1400 High, according to the calculator the recommended lighting seems to be much more acceptable for the use of a 250watter, optimal lighting it reckons is 184 watts and max of 276 watts, so i think this growboard will be the way to go ;)

Hi Goobs,

A 250w HPS in your new space will get you the results your after.

Sort some passive intake(s) some air exchange and it will rock.

All the best - a good decision ;)

Nitty.

Cheers mate hehe, so you reckon i won't need an exhaust fan just a few vents, maybe a fan inside to keep air moving to?

Thanks for the advice gazza  but im gunna stick with my 250w, 400w just seems like overkill for one plant y'know, just a general question if anyone can answer that'd be rad, but is their any relation between the level of humidity and the possibility of mould? like the higher the humidity the higher the chance of mould developing? if so what would the "danger" zone so to speak of humidity, if these two things are completely unrelated set me straight, i mean i know good ventilation and air circulation help reduce the chance of mould, but if i were to monitor humidity in order to prevent mould, that'd obviously be beneficial to. >:(
