The stench of cannabis from a van that was stopped during a random breath test has allegedly led officers to the discovery $450,000 worth of drugs.

Highway patrol officers stopped the Toyota Hi-Ace van in Frederick Street at Fairfield about 9.10pm yesterday for the random breath test.

"When officers approached the van they allegedly noticed a strong smell emanating from the vehicle," police said.

Officers searched the van and allegedly found a large number of bags containing cannabis.

Police allege they found 46 cannabis plants and about 40 kilograms of cannabis leaf, worth a total street value of $450,000.

The 31-year-old driver and 25-year-old passenger were arrested and later charged with possessing a prohibited plant, supplying a commercial quantity of cannabis leaf and knowingly taking part in the cultivation of a prohibited plant.

Both were refused bail and face Central Local Court today

How is moving plants in a van cultivation?

How were they supplying a commercial quantity? Maybe they possessed it.... but that's it.

"knowingly taking part in the cultivation of a prohibited plant." Should just be possessing, it shouldn't be separate wtf?

And refused bail? Shit, hope they don't get the same judge for the case....

I mean, how much hash would 40kg of leaf make?
